why did they even look n try to break it? they were up numbers so if she peeked she would peek into a crossfire no?

prolly because there are 2 scenarios (assuming that petra the attacker playing post plant)

both just tapped the spike and are waiting for her to peek, so if the dart scanned them then she'd know that they aren't sticking and she would not peek
if one is sticking and then the dart scanned then its already halfed when she peeks and most probably she'll kill 1(50-50 chance but yeah) and after that it is very losable.

so to break the dart= not give her info and take advantage of that.

also its a sort of instinct to break the dart icl
