After announcing his release from the organization earlier in the week, Gen.G Gen.G Korea Rank #2 Foxy9 Jung Jae-sung (정재성) Ash Ha Hyun-cheol (하현철) Karon Kim Won-tae (김원태) has announced the re-signing of Controller player Kim "Karon" Won-tae (김원태).

"I'm working to become the best, not watch the best," Karon said in a video announcing his return. "I want to show [the fans] how far I can go, and what I really want to achieve... at Gen.G."

Karon joined Gen.G ahead of the 2024 season as the team's sole rookie, complementing a squad fitted with four players who had already amassed valuable experience in the professional Valorant scene. Carrying the reputation of a strong player in ranked Valorant, Karon's only professional playing experience before Gen.G came with pick up team No No No No No No Inactive Impact Park Sung-hyun (박성현) Cloy Kim Min-gyu (김민규) Karon Kim Won-tae (김원태) Rico Han Jun-seo (한준서) Pooky in 2023.

In taking the step up to VCT, Karon barely showed signs of backing down. His debut campaign saw Gen.G crowned champions of Pacific Kickoff, which claimed Korea's first Pacific title. The strong form continued through Masters Madrid, where Karon played a part in the squad reaching the grand final but falling just short to American fan favorites Sentinels Sentinels North America Rank #5 N4RRATE Marshall Massey Zellsis Jordan Montemurro zekken Zachary Patrone johnqt Mohamed Amine Ouarid . A second-place finish in Stage 1 qualified the Tigers for Masters Shanghai, where Gen.G went undefeated to lift the first international title in the history of the Pacific region. Gen.G returned home and claimed the Stage 2 trophy, but ended the year on a whimper, bowing out in the group stage of Champions Seoul.

As Gen.G went through an up-and-down 2025 season, which began with the squad tasked with replacing Meteor and Lakia , Karon was one of three constants in the team, playing the Controller role for the squad. The year, while overall disappointing for a squad that lifted three titles the year before, was highlighted by a runner-up finish in Pacific Stage 1 and a 5th-6th finish at Masters Toronto.

As standard for the organization, all players and staff members with expiring contracts were announced as departures, only to be welcomed back shortly after. The day before Karon's re-signing was announced, head coach solo and coach HSK were re-signed.

With the Controller role filled for the 2026 season and both coaches who were the masterminds behind a successful 2024 season, Gen.G now has just two spots left to fill in its starting roster.
