They play so that they can improve. If kr and jp merge, the Japanese audience will simply stop watching cause none of the teams are able to play internationally. And once that happens, JP as a region is doomed. This is what CS:GO did to Asia. It will take time, but they will emerge as an equal soon.

Lots of tier1 KR talent is already going to Japan for bigger salaries (allow, hate, suggest, many more to come)
