the problem i have with "rookie seasons" is that players with experience competing are still considered rookies since they make their tier 1 debut

like are you going to tell me that kaajak is a rookie when he was competing in tier 2 - if thats the case then almost every player that makes the jump from t2 to t1 is a rookie regardless of age or experience

feel like that term should be reserved for players with actually little to no competitive experience because it highlights how insane of a step up it is for them like s1mon or karon

there are very very very few players who come out of nowhere and get straight to T1, Karon and primmie are the only ones I can think of

even in cs rookie is tier 1 rookie, for example donk was considered a rookie in 2024 even though before he played on an academy team that was playing t2 or even t1.5 regularly. there are also just very few t1 players who have little to no competitive experience cos thats not how esports works.

yes but the issue with rookie discourse is people will look at you funny when you say johnqt is/was a rookie

idm that being the definition of rookie its just the narrative is driven in a way that makes it look like these players have little or no experience when in most cases it just isnt true... why else would people try to exclude older players like john from rookie lists
