today could be the last wolves game of the year. :( so I thought id compile my thoughts
they weren't that great in stage 1, and really only made it to Toronto cause of the EDG falloff. Granted the Toronto run was incredible, they certainly stepped up and looked insanely better than they did in china, but admittedly it was a bit of a whimsy and power of friendship run (I wouldn't have it any other way) but I'll be honest, I couldn't really see this stage going well for them.
at Toronto they only really had 4 good maps, (ascent lotus pearl split MAYBE icebox but not really) and after I saw that pearl and split were rotating out I knew stage 2 would be hard, the only hope was that they could improve their map pool in the small gap between Toronto and stage 2, but as we've seen, their haven is still pretty bad, and I don't even want to talk about corrode, bind looked much better today compared to the dreaded AG match, but that is an insanely low bar.
It seems like they're experimenting with roles a little, and are struggling to fit into the double duelist + viper meta, and I'll be honest spring's duelist looks extremely rough, his decision making and aim was very poor today, but I won't criticize him too much as sometimes a player just has an off game, and I believe he will bounce back easily. on the other hand I REALLY like the idea of yuicaw on smokes, it opens up the roles so much for the rest of the team, I would 100% like to see this more. obviously some of the other players have been in poor form too, but once again, I don't feel its a problem as we all know their potential.
At the end of the day I think all this team needs is time, I have no doubt that fayde will COOK after a well deserved break, as I've already seen the great coaching value he can provide.
Obviously they could still make champs off points, which would be awesome, but even if they don't, WE will be there when they conquer all of china in 2026 <3
