Just hear me out. What defines Aspas is longevity at the highest level, but he hasn't really ever been the best player itw, just almost always top 5

2021: Not present

2022

M1: Yay
M2: Shao/Yay
Champs: Yay/Pancada

2023

Lock//IN: Leo
M2: Alfajer/Leo/Derke
Champs: Demon1

2024

M1: Zekken/T3xture/Karon
M2: Meteor/T3xture/Wo0t
Champs: Chichoo/ZMJJKK

2025

M1: Trent/Izu/Chichoo
M2: Alfajer/T3xture/F0rsaken

I want an unbiased opinion on which of these events you honestly would say Aspas was better than anyone listed, cause I don't see it

2024 master Madrid best player were zekken, tenz and munchkin/meteor
Also I would include spring too for Toronto.

Yeah i realized i missed tenz for Madrid probably should've been zekken tenz karon

And I couldn't stomach putting 4 players for Toronto, and Texture/Alfajer felt more impactful to me. F0rsaken was the MVP IGL and highest rated player of the winning team so he was definitely making the list

aspas was better than yay at m1. kangkang is completely overrated at champs. Aspas was better there as well. He was better than derke at tokyo as well.

Aspas played half the rounds and had a lower rating at M1. While I agree KangKang is overrated at Champs, that grand final performance is what everyone thinks of when they think of the tournament, and even if you have Aspas over KK, Chichoo was better than both of them. He was better than Derke at Tokyo but Alfajer and Leo were EASILY better

Tbh at Tokyo the best duelist was kk easily. Derke was still the 2nd best duelist in Tokyo but he had Leo, Alfa and chronicle too.

Personally, I'd pick demon1 since he played more rounds at a similar level, but I have no gripes if someone wants to argue for KK

I rate space making plus first kill engagement and acs quite high for duelist so kk was easily the best in Tokyo at least for me. Demon 1 was decent but he lacked in comparison to pure duelists like derke, kk or aspas.

Yep that's what I've been saying. He ofc has one of the best mechanics but there was never a year where everyone said aspas is the goat of that year, he's in the conversations for goat status because of his longevity but why have i not heard the same conversations around derke.

it depends if you consider the best player in the world only the player that won the international by default

For example, in CS device won 3 Majors in a row(2018-2019), and the best players in the world were still s1mple and zywoo

aspas is not the best player by any metric, chronicle, yay and meteor all clear him kkkkkkkkkkkk

The best player can not win the tournament; they just tend to. For instance, Chichoo and Trent at Bangkok were IMO the 2 best players, but Chichoo got 3rd and Trent 2nd. The same applies to Toronto, where I'd say Alfa was the best, but that case doesn't apply to Aspas really anywhere. The closest I'd get him to #1 is Reykjavik and Champs 2024 but yay was yay and Chichoo had a god tournament.

at champs 24 is the closest argument i could possibly see, i think chichoo + kk + all of edg didnt really play like the best players until they were in that sen game, could say that aspas was the best before then

4/5 of EDG might not have played at that level until the GF, but Chichoo absolutely did. He was farming to the point you could argue the grand final was his worst performance despite being the 2nd highest rated player of the match.
