Remember when 20 IQ simpletons thought EDG was goood because of their champs win? They also thought kangkang was world class? Even though people who can actually use their brain told them they were just a neon meta team with no brain, no strat, nothing but neon slides? Hilarious

More like we'll never know - Champions curse just too strong.

They were having a bad year before they added s1mon, went on a crazy run with / after adding s1mon (won champs, did reasonably at Bangkok), drama with s1mon happened, dropped s1mon (the crucial piece that adding kicked off their run), and have been struggling to find a suitable replacement since.

I was lowkey hoping EDG would break the curse but it's inevitable. EDG at Bangkok definitely weren't the same as they were at Champs, but they are a lot more of a shell of their former selves without s1mon. Though this should serve as a lesson that you need to try and uphold professionalism even if you do feel like you're being thrown under the bus. S1mon definitely got dealt a tough hand basically being in contract jail, but hopefully someone at EDG realises he was the final puzzle piece to make EDG a worldbeater.

This is an aside hot take, but if EDG kept S1mon with the meta going into Toronto, they would have qualified and put up a good fight. Tejo seemed to have disrupted how EDG played their game and now Tejo is gone from the meta. It's now so open that S1mon's agent pool would be a heavily viable option especially with how effective he was with his utility.

Yeah, agree. I understand why they did drop s1mon because some of the stuff he did was deeply unprofessional - but I do hope that they'll let him find a new team and that he grows as a person because he's a good player. It probably didn't help that the got the spotlight so early in his career and hadn't develop the kind of professionalism that would be expected for Tier 1 teams.

But yeah s1mon was a big part of their success, so it's sad that it had to end up like this and I do agree that EDG may have enjoyed some more prolonged success or a less steep fall-off if they had kept him on. Maybe that's a difference between traditional sports and eSports teams - I wonder how many traditional sports teams have won together whilst having players who absolutely despised each other (but have insane chemistry playing together). But yeah the org was probably thinking long-term and thinking they would rather cut their losses now and rebuild.
