The GREAT Humbling

I'll be the one to say it since I can still see some of us in denial. Top EMEA teams ain't what we thought they are.

I love EMEA, but this tournament has exposed the following.

  • Our strategies SUCK or just don't exist
  • We rely more on aim WAY more than we thought we did and would like to admit
  • Most of our top team's team work is equivalent to a mediocre CS team at best.
  • Our top teams lack the real experience to be considered S tier

OPEN QUESTION: Do you think we can improve enough in time to perform at Champions the way we "expect" and think we should? Or are we gonna trail behind for another year

We got some work to do boys!

I'm super calm. It's a simple observation. There's no way an EMEA takes this tournament playing the way they have so far. Maybe Gambit can as their loss was a clear late game choke.

from what I heard from korean pros, gambit was the only eu team that played like they had strategy

so I have gambit hopium

Yeah it's not yet over but based on how they performed up to now is kinda disappointing,
2nd seed losing to 2nd Seed from SEA which most of the people consider a minor or inferior region
Acend losing to koreans

EMEA should focus on the long run. I don't think they can win champions. They should start playing smarter and EU fans should not just ditch their teams so early and should support them through their losses too

100%! I think we as fans have been too eager and with gassed expectations because of our CS dominance.

they were dumb, if you're a european that's skilled in tac fps you would play csgo not valorant lmao

NA actually has a reason to grind valorant their scene is dead

Yeah. And tbh there's alot of "wait till insert team or player moves to valorant" talk going on.

If I was a pro CS player... I wouldn't be looking to move to a game that reduces the amount of skill needed to be top top tier in the raw mechanics department.

The whole "just wait till s1mple/anyplayer goes to valorant haha!" is total copium, praying on a hypothetical rather than wanting your existing scene to get better is actually pretty pathetic.

There is lots of talent in EMEA, they just need the time and experience to improve.

Plus NA could say the same, Liquid CS teams playstyle suits valorant so well they would literally shit on the entire scene within a month

First of all you can't just look at SMB and say none of EMEA teams has strats. they are too new to this. And ofc EMEA lack experience and NA brought way more experience to this LAN than EMEA. but doesn't mean EMEA can't be good.

I agree everything you said. It's not just based on SMB's first map. Even if they come back and clap PRX, I still haven't seen anything that really looks like it would crush a well disciplined and experienced team. We will get there eventually.

well other EMEA teams have been together for longer, put your hopes on them. a lot of people was saying that both EMEA teams make it out of group A but SMB is still very new to keep that promise. maybe next time they can bring something better.

Fair point. Remember though, I';m not saying we are Z tier trash. I'm just saying we aren't quite as good as we thought.

Even Acend vs Vision strikers, if you really pay attention to that, Acend's approach and preparation was so flawed. You could see it in the amount of times players were dying alone and the lack of coordination in their util compared to VS. All in good time the teams will get better, BUT so will teams from other regions.
