Could the game die if they add too many agents?

The way I perceive Valorant is that one of it's main USP's is that it's a nice and welcoming game for people who are new to FPS games, but if they keep on adding agents with more and more obscure abilities it makes the floor way higher.

You can dislike the fact that riot have to cater to new audiences (examples such as smoke particles, cypher cam), but without it, but at some point the game will only keep a steady, loyal fanbase with little to no growth.

I think this problem is a lot worse in Valorant since an ability can be applied in many different ways (think gekko flash, and kayo flash, both have the same purpose but are very different on how they work mechanically)

riot's been cautious as much as possible with this game when it comes to new characters, so probably not.

I agree, so far so good(ish)
but the more you add the harder it becomes to balance, fix bugs and update things like voice lines
and even right now we have 3-4 very bad agents with all of them being recent, and it seems we might receive another one after shanghai.
I'd rather they balance/rework what we already have before trying to add more

But you can think in the other way as well... If there are no new agents, valorant will die eventually, cause it's all about different fun abilities which play the major role

I think there has to be a balance, right now I think we are too much on the output side. Also it makes each new agent less exciting if there's more and more, it will sort of become an expected thing instead of a cool new refreshing thing. Think of the battlepass, you expect to get one every act, that is how agents will become if they keep at their current rate of 2-3 per year

I agree with this. You get a lot confused while picking the agent. But again, what makes games more interesting is what new things they can add and in Valorant, the only thing that can be added are agents, maps and guns.

not really, the game is an fps. Most low rank players who start off are capable of playing an fps shooter. The abilities are just the second layer of the game that players can learn overtime and it isnt needed to play the base game (Unlike league where there is no base mechanic like shooting and players have to learn all the champions).

The thing is Val is getting a constant but small influx of new players, who are not bad at FPS games: CS players who are fed up with cheaters and bad matchmaking. Until Valve fixes both of those things (which will never happen btw, theyve said they dont want to make a kernel anticheat for user privacy reasons. They could at some point fix the matchmaking and ranks tho), Val will be getting new players on the regular.

Think of it like: 5 players start playing CS.
After a year, 3 quit Valve servers but move to Faceit because they dont like Val and want to keep playing CS;
1 quits FPS games for good;
and 1 will transition to Valorant.
