Dividing the regular season into stages makes no sense. Just move Shanghai back a few weeks and extend first Stage into a full 10 match season. LCQ after Shanghai EZ

edit a lot of you are talking about burnout and total games

My main issue is dividing the season into Stages and using each Stage as a qualifier for Masters Shanghai and Champions. This is just an uncompetitive way to select qualifiers, I want the top 2/3/4 out of 11 teams that have played each other and shown their relative strength. Ie: Groups in Stage 1 are bad, a Mid team ends up winning an easy group and qualifies while a better team in the more competitive group stays home. This problem would be completely avoided by not dividing the teams into different groups and not dividing the season into stages. All 11 teams would play each other and there would be a way to compare every team against each other. How would you tie-break for teams in different groups with the EXACT same record? Flip a coin? The only competitive way to select qualifiers is for each to play each other before Master's Shanghai and Champions.

I think it is so that teams won't face burnout to quickly this season since everything is tightly packed together. Maybe next year the 2025 season will have more matches. Leo Faria has stated before they are thinking long-term.

bro this format makes team burn out faster man just think about it

But they only have to play 5 matches per league split. If they play 10 matches in the regular season per international league split, a team like FNATIC will be running out of steam by the 2nd IL playoffs.

no they will not be burned out because of playing the game tho pro love playing it they can play it all day the main reason for burn out is the travelling bro player have to travel to so many place in a very short of time

i thought FNS and Boaster said they were getting burnout from playing 1 match every week due to them prepping for it all the time.

yeah and this too, they will suffer it again this year too many tournaments, too many opponents to prepare in a very short time

I’m sure riot has something that will make sure traveling isn’t that bad. Even If they don’t have it this year, they probably will have it next year.

burntout?? on cs you play like 60 matches a year even if you are from tier 2, teams on franchiising will play more than 10 only if they are built different i understand how a burnout works but if someone complains because he plays "much" why be a pro in the first place??? "omg i have to do my job"

I think it's because Valorant is a game where their agents have a variety of abilites, which means teams have to constantly adapt to what's meta. Not to mention that there will be new maps coming in and out of the rotation.

i understand the burnout more if your game is literally the same everytime but valorant being so diverse in playstyles and agent pool makes it easier to not get bored with imo

Ye but that means teams need to prep against a good amount of comps per map over and over again.

Are all those played on LAN? It's one thing to play 1 pro match a week from your own house, but another from hotel rooms in LA, Berlin or Seoul for weeks straight, fly home, then fly across the world for international. To make it work like pro sports would be if every team had their own esports arena and they play at home every other week, so basically 2 weeks at home, 3 days out somewhere, back home.

yeah, go see faze matches and see how much of them are played on LAN and rumours say they scrim more than val players

faze in 2023 played 165 maps on LAN totalling 74 matches, one match every 5 days
val players on a good year play 31 matches TOTAL including a SEASONAL ROUND ROBIN FORMAT so one nearly every 12 days (fnatic with the most matches through 2023, could be wrong on this)
it gets worse when we put in only the actual international tournaments, where, if you were fnatic and won every single match in champs, tokyo and sao paulo you'd only have 16 matches played through the year internationally, one nearly every 23 days.
let's say you're an unfortunate org like KOI?
1 international match in a year, LOCK//IN. you play your regular season, some playoffs, maybe a crossfire cup (all EMEA tournaments) and that's your entire year.
the system is broken. this cannot be all we can offer to these teams.

is there gonna be a kickoff LAN like sao paulo? lock in?

LockIN was a one time event according to riot. This year, there is a regional "kick-off" in every region, which sends 2 teams to the first Masters of the year in Madrid. No international event to start the year.

that's too many games. each team would be playing like 30-50 games in 8 months which is way too much. Also Riots way of adding interest into the tier 2 scene and game changers is to have tier 1 not playing when ascension and game changers is happening.

riot isn't adding any more games each year but they may space things out. Keep in mind there will be 14 teams in each league soon so that will at least add another few weeks of play.

I feel like reacting to the format after only one year of partnership is difficult. Sure, on paper the new format isn't super appealing, but we don't know how well the overall viewer experience will be with tier 2 hopefully filling in gaps between the major tournaments and international leagues. We lost a big international tournament due to no LOCK//IN, but we gained one in Masters Madrid.
Remember how much backlash we heard after the announcement of the LOCK//IN format, yet now we don't really talk about it just because of how memorable the final was. I'm by no means a rito apologist, but I want to see how they implement this format before passing judgement.

youre right, there's probably a lot going into each decision and i just hope other tournaments can fill enough of the year so we dont have as much of a long off season next year

i mean ascension will be after champs so thats good......plus GC starts right after that and 2025 starts in jan so it will be fine

GC goes throughout the year (i think NA open quals actually starts before kickoff tournaments do) plus i think challengers might be able to fill the other time

if we start the season in jan we can have 2 full split 3 international tourneys and only a 3 month off season which is more than enough

that would be ideal but Jan is almost over.
