The format itself is dogshit of course but this aspect of it is by far the worst no? In what world is this even remotely fair? Why is it that a team that had a disappointing year has to go to a new season at a big disadvantage bc of it like what? This part of the format convinces me 100% that the entire planning was half assed bc it literally makes no sense at all, there’s nothing holding up the integrity of competition from this decision at all when we can’t even provide teams a fresh start as they head straight into an important tourney

I’ve seen mfs trying to justify the format by saying stuff like “oh but it makes sense that EG get an advantage bc they won Champs” like what? Did VCT 2023 not end or smth? Is this year VCT 2023 Part II?

I can't with you people you want them to change the rules because Americas best team last year is now poverty and have a chance at Madrid in 2 matches, so you want them to change it for every single region, I doubt they are even going to make playoffs dude, G2 is in their group and are way better than them calm down.

I literally don’t give a shit where EG end up my guy you’re not understanding the purpose of the post at all. EG was just an example, like do you seriously think it’s fair that FNC, PRX, etc get a seeding advantage for their placements in an already done and dusted season?

FNC and PRX and EDG are already solidified teams yes they get an advantage but it's a deserved one if you think about it, but this also puts worse teams in worse groups, like SEN has a really easy group and NRG have a fairly tough one. Americas as a region isn't really that different in skill to be honest everyone is in the same skill level everyone is beatable. EG have a horrible roster, if they wanted to do a seeding thing why wouldn't we just have a seeding tournament from January 10th to January 20th lets say in every region minimal prize pool. EG wont go far I promise, or easier just randomize groups and forget seeding all together.

How else would you seed it? Just let Rito decide based on vibes? Let the community vote?

UCL also assigns country slots based on performances from the last 5 years, even if the teams rebuild completely. I feel like while it does suck, it's the best way to do it?

There shouldn’t be any seedings at all lol, it’s the first VCT tournament, what opportunity is there for teams to be already seeded it makes no sense whatsoever

As you said the seeding is kinda pointless because teams are different than last year. But what's even more pointless is to complain about it, what's the difference between a pointless seeding and a random draft? Both are random

Last years seed #1 faces the last seed, both teams are lucky or unlucky depending on what the other team did in the off season, not what they did the season before. The last seed probably has one of the easiest match ups in this case. That is pretty random

All regions have 11 teams this year, it's really hard to build tournaments with 11 teams. Giving 1 team a bye round makes it much more reasonable.

I think it's a good format beside the seeding shit from last year, should be a fresh start but its whatever I doubt EG would go far.

It is based on org performance regardless of who was playing on it or who isnt anymore since it is now franchising, In the past (2022) it was slightly different) for example 100T got a bye pass open quals because they kept 3/5 players. if they started from scratch with an all-new roster then they would have had to go through open quals. EG gets a bye even though they only retained one player and their coach because its franchising and there are no open quals anymore. (having an uneven amount of teams also might have complicated things a bit)

i feel like #1 spots for each region is kinda fair but the ascension teams being #11 AND in the same group as #1 seed is unfair....they are bound to play in the "play-in" stage pretty much (except americas maybe idk)
