do they disallow full russian rosters? csjoe removed the CIS RMR for major participation but still allows full russian/near full russian teams like VP/C9/1WIN/TS to participate

i said it before that mEMEA doesn't have a talent issue though, the bigger problems are trash coaching staff and siloed play so they never learn how to call/cook strats against opponents that directly counter your play, like the way LOUD plays is a direct anti-default

Yes EMEA was still the best region I 2022 (compared to NA, APAC etc. not Americas, pacififc), but it was a massive drop-off from 2021 nonetheless.

At the end of 2021 (champions) EMEA arguably had the 4 best team itw (all 4 EMEA teams got 1st in their group @champs).

In 2022 they just went head to head with NA and they were barely even better

nahhh. sure FNC carried EMEA, but the same can be said about every other region. NA = EG, APAC = PRX, SA = LOUD, etcetc. was a good year, unfortunately got outplayed by fnatic's only kryptonite

Lock/In isn’t a good measure of a team’s strength, considering there’s no lower bracket. A team that placed 8th can be considerably better than abteam that placed 4th.

But yeah gotta concede with Liquid, DRX and Loud looked shit in Tokyo but idk what happened to Liquid in champs

i think what's more of a thing with lock//in was that a lot of the teams were new or with a roster that had significant changes (FNC being the prime example) and with lotus being played for the first time, it was more a measure of how well teams can read each other on the fly with zero prep. obviously a ton has changed since then, like i don't think Talon would beat EG in the slightest anymore lol

Lock in doesn't matter. It's more of an expository event. Teams were still barely finalised then.

But honestly, EMEA is supposed to have 3 premier teams coming into Champions. Both TL and Na'Vi hard choked, and the punishing format sees them both booted.

I'd still expect upward of 3 contenders from EMEA every year, it's just been a tumultuous year for them.
