The FTW Summer Showdown, an all-women's invitational tournament hosted by Nerd Street Gamers, is now an Ignition Series event. Additionally, the event now has a $50,000 USD prize pool, a massive increase from the $10,000 prize pool previously announced. Riot said they provided the additional $40,000 boost.
This will presumably be the last Ignition Series event in North America, a title previously held by Pop Flash. No other tournament thus far has been promoted to an Ignition Series event from lesser origins.
The tournament will now be the second Ignition Series event Nerd Street Gamers has hosted, the first being the T1 x NSG Showdown, which was won by TSM TSM North America Rank #8 in June. That tournament also boasted a $50,000 prize pool.
Competition will begin with a group stage on Friday where two groups of six teams each will compete in a series of Bo1 matches. The top four from each group will advance to a single-elimination Bo3 playoffs which will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
MAJKL have regularly competed in tier 2 Valorant tournaments, notably finishing in the top four of an Esports Arena tournament and defeating rosters such as Evil Geniuses' former Rainbow 6 Siege team and Second Wind over the course of those competitions. Dignitas Female, who competed in the Valhalla Invitational during the game's beta phase, consists mainly of Dignitas's all-women CS:GO roster. The Silhouette roster has also played in a number of tier 2 tournaments and bENITA, who is on GX3, was on Counter Logic Gaming's all-women roster in CS:GO.
Competition begins this Friday with the Bo1 group stage and one Bo3 quarterfinals match.
