Whats the best anime movies in your opinion? Im wanting to add some for my watchlist. Movies that depend to watch the original show dont count.
Heres mine:

  1. Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a time
  2. Kiki delivery service/ Kaguya-hime
  3. Redline (most underated piece of media of alltime)
  4. Ookami Kodomo no ame (Wolf children)
  5. Akira
Honorable mention to Kimi no nawa and Maquia.

I didnt see kimi no na wa in the HM's and i was about to just fully lose it LMFAO

Your Name and Weathering With You (both makoto shinkai movies) are fucking fantastic
What is also unfathomably good are ghibli movies
Unfortunately i dont feel like ive seen enough anime movies to properly rank a top 5
but you could maybe add some ghibli in the HMs

5 centimeters per second

best shinkai movie, absolute masterpiece and paints a heartbreakingly realistic picture of romance

Sadly i watched all of them already, but i was wanting to watch the entire Monogatari Series again, it was one of the most bizzarre and enjoyable animes that i saw when i started to watch animes. Also the triology is a direct sequel isnt it? I dont remember if you can just watch them and understand alright

The trilogy is the prequel to Bakemonogatari

  • Your name (Top tier Makoto Shinkai film; can't go wrong with that)
  • I want to eat your pancreas (ignore the name, the movie is super sad and emtional)
  • 5 Centimeters per second (Realistic but sad film)
  • A silent voice (another sad one)
  • Weathering with you (didn't enjoy this one, but people liked it)

in terms of animation and a "flourished" story, sure. Was it the most realistic and touching one? Probably.

EoE is classic but Thrice Upon a Time offers a more satisfying conclusion to the overall narrative IMO. Not that I don't love EoE and the originals as much I think the rebuilds just provide more completion.

yeah obviously it’s going to be the most realistic since the other ones are not intended to be realistic, they’re intended to be supernatural. As for most touching, I found Weathering With You to be more touching

I think if Shinkai flushed out the first story in 5 cm/s, it would’ve turned out to be a great movie. I found the other stories to be boring

EoE was a good movie and an enjoyable watch but it was all over the place and kind of a mess, didn’t offer a great conclusion

Thrice upon a time is a perfect conclusion that fully completes shinjis character arc and offers a sense of completion to a legendary franchise so it sadly clears

Yeah i watched almost all of the Ghibli movies already, i could make an list way bigger but i dont think people would care too much, also im just being edgy not puting Kimi no nawa in the top 3 lmao, i loved it as much as the other three when i watched for the first time. I recommend you Garden of words if you didnt watched it already, its more an short film but its gorgeous.

Garden of Words is good, I didn’t like that it was between a teacher and student cuz that’s kinda taboo but that’s my only real complaint, it was a very good story

Those who say the ending is depressing are missing the themes of EOE. As an Eva fan, I agree that 3.0 + 1.0 is good, but EOE is even better, and I would say it is a timeless classic.

I don't know if by your comment you mean you haven't watched NGE at all, but I would recommend doing so since it is a classic, and 3.0 + 1.0 is at the top of your list. Some parts are a bit dated, and the budget runs out near the end, but it is still a great anime with a great ending with EOE.

I would recommend Suzume no Tojimari as another Makoto Shinkai movie. It will take a while to get released (or for it to get pirated in watchable quality), though I felt it was the most enjoyable Shinkai movie I have watched compared to Kimi no Nawa and Tenki no Ko.

I watched pompo-san, very fun movie but not much memorable tho. Added Kara no kyoukai to my list, im skeptical with ufotable but im going to try this one. The suzuya movie i need to watch the anime? Or is independent? The others i already watched, thank you bro 🤗

Grave of fireflies is so so so good and not many people know of it it seems like.

It's so heartbreaking, gut wrenching and horrific but it's so incredibly powerful. I'd recommend everyone watch it once because you won't want to watch it again. It's super good.

It's so well done tbh. Made me cry so much times and I resonated a lot with the main character. Recommend you watch it, it's super worth. At least the one time.
