China 3 slots

I definitely want the Chinese scene to grow and develop, but isn’t 3 guaranteed slots for one country too much? There are countries that will potentially not have any teams at champs, just seems a little unfair.

I think they made it three because you need even number(16) of teams and giving an extra spot to one of the big three would result in backlash.

We'll see... If any of their teams lose by 13-0, it's a sign that the spot is a waste.

They could have done some kind of LCQ with the ascension winning teams, to help the winner consolidate their line-up for next year and get some money to prevent their players from being poached.

(or fk it, just give each ascension winner the direct spot + 1 CN).

Why is it too much? Last I checked, china had a population of over 1.4 billion people.

It's just the fact that they're guaranteed slots...

Why shouldn't they get their own slots? They're their own region by themselves. It's not like they've pulled three random teams. It'll be the 3 best performing teams in china. Japan and Brazil were trash in 2021 but they still got slots for 2022. This is no different.

India have 1.3 billion should they get as much slots?

You could make that argument if you want. It's a little different tho, as the potential esports population of players is gonna be several fold higher in china than in india because of culture/infrastructure. We've seen what chinese e-sports look like at full throttle in league of legends and cross-fire. The same can't be said to be true of india.

3 slots is still too much considering any other leagues also only gets 3 and the leagues consists of all countries (higher competition)

Actually, with lcq in mind and the spot gained for the region winning tokyo, the other regions get 4/4/5 slots. They intend for china to be it's own partnership league eventually. If anything, when their league is fully up and running, I expect them to get a 4th slot.

so then china will be the only country with the most player from one country in masters from now on. i dont see any country that can dominate a region so much to get all the slot for masters

China and Korea, two individual countries, dominate everyone in league of legends. While it's less likely in valorant because of Europe's history in tac fps, it's not impossible we could see china eventually do the same here.

at least korea isnt in a separate league and have to fight against other apac teams and not all the korean teams are dominating the league, so china will still gets more slots than korea from now on which is crazy to think about

Valorant isn't that popular in korea and even if it was, korea doesn't have the same potential to explode in player population that china has.

I know but I don't really care even if it is just about money anyway. Money is good. And even if that's the case now, chinese teams will eventually be good and deserve to be at internationals on merit alone.

China is a powerhouse region in esports. It makes no sense to smash it into the Pacific region as a China-only league can surpass the viewership of all other leagues, even combined given enough time. They can fund their own league and have overwhelming org support for the scene. There are already 20 orgs fighting to get into FGC, with 8 orgs already confirmed for act 2, 28 teams in total so far. And that not even all the big orgs as currently only about a third of the LPL orgs have a valorant roster. BTW have I said the games have not even been released yet?

Why would riot actively slow down the growth of Val esport in China when they want a meteoric rise of the game.

Competitively yes, it's obvious they don't deserve it and yes it's obviously unfair on that basis. But this is Riot's circuit and they care more about platforming and garnering the broadest interest worldwide in their product over competitive integrity. Another reason why open circuit is much better than a dev having total control of the competitive scene.
