first of all, when building a venue for a sporting event on any kind, you want the fans as close to the action as possible: in short, this didn't happen, the fans were quite far from the players as you can observe here ( https://esports.gg/_next/image/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fadmin.esports.gg%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2023%2F02%2FFPX-vs-KC-at-LOCKIN-on-stage-968x544.jpg&w=750&q=75 ; as opposed, for example to a basket stadium, https://static01.nyt.com/images/2023/02/03/multimedia/00nba-lebron-impact-02-twgl/00nba-lebron-impact-02-twgl-videoSixteenByNine3000.jpg ), that is not a tragic problem, but it is going to make the fans look like a completely different entity from what's going on in the game; me honestly i would've suggested a glass divider, kinda like the artemio franchi has ( https://www.dolcelunafirenze.com/images/stadio.jpg ), totally doable; also the fans need a place to hang their banners, which were just not there.
secondly, i'd point out that, if the accusations are true, the treatment of the fans visiting was shocking. i've seen a thread calling out the organizers for not allowing bags, waters etc; that thread also said they had no ac inside. i honestly find it hard to believe an event can be organized so badly, i've been working in a stadium for a while and i know fully well that is not how you treat fans. but i didn't actually go to sao paolo, so i won't elaborate further.
but the most important thing that needs to change, imho, is how these fans are organized, let me make this more clear: the stadium can't just be silent, but it can't be messy either, the crowd need a direction while chanting ( the fans chanting against other teams' players is totally normal and whilst it shouldn't be glorified it should be accepted as a part of sports ), if an organized group won't form the event organizers should've gotten involved in some way; seeing a game like ( https://www.vlr.gg/167359/evil-geniuses-vs-talon-esports-champions-tour-2023-lock-in-s-o-paulo-alpha-qf ) with a half empty crowd is pretty sad. for some context, here are the best fans itw at a normal game ( https://i0.wp.com/www.sportpeople.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Milan-Udinese-5.jpg?resize=1140%2C641&ssl=1 ) ; as opposed to the lockin crowd at its best, ( https://www.thespike.gg/_next/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.thespike.gg%2FOnur%252Fvalorant%2520lock%2520in%25202023%2520fnatic_1677978063666.jpg&w=1920&q=75 ), this is obviously not what riot should aim for, it is not feasible, the grandfinal didn't look bad fan-wise, but every game should've been on that note, stupid little white plastic sticks are not enough.

in conclusion, watching any sporting event live should be in primis an enjoyable experience, before wanting to see their team, the fans should be there for the experience, i believe riot failed in this regard and the event would've seen a huge benefit from a more thought out organization, just my opinion.

My takes on the organisation and crowd as someone who went there:

  1. Riot did not sell full capacity each day, and we were directed to a couple stands to stay closer together even tho I bought the ticket in the other side of the stadium

  2. They kicked us out right after the game finished, there wasn't even time to get more food or drinks or listen to the interviews

  3. It was very very warm inside, had to help a couple who fainted next to me

In the final:

  1. Booing: Could have not happened in the walkout, but in game its ok

  2. Leaving early: I feel like most people are exaggerating a bit, around half of the people were in the stadium when Fnatic lifted the trophy, we were then asked to leave immediately

  3. Crowd cheating: Did not affect the outcome of the rounds as both teams cannot hear a sound. They do feel the vibration, but it works in the favour both sides.

Fnatic capitalized on Loud's mistakes and won fair and square. Gj!

This is not how esports works lil bro.

You cannot have the audience close to the players in esports cause then the crowd can literally shout "in the smoke" or "turn around" and the players will be able to hear it.

The players wear headphones that play white noise but let's be honest, they can only put out the crowd cheering and not somebody shouting clear words and sentences out, of course, unless you play the white noise so loud that either the players cannot hear the actual game audio or they go deaf. In fact, teams can literally have plants in the crowd that shout certain sounds as signals for different things.
Just look at how Korea conducted starcraft tournaments back in the day. They used to put the players far away in glass boxes, which is still the gold standard for maintaining competitive integrity. In fact not putting the players in boxes is already an attempt made by Riot/other TOs to put players as close as possible to the fans as possible.

Do you want to control the chant of the crowd? This has to be one of the most ridiculous takes on this website lil bro. Crowd behaviour emerges naturally and it is a random and chaotic process. That is what makes it wonderful. In fact its great that the teams have to care about the crowd behaviour on LANs. Otherwise, what is the point of having LANs at different locations at all?

Also I am pretty sure this thread is hinting at it but does not mention it explicitly but I am gonna say it here. I think Brazil is being bashed too much.

Yes in an ideal world you would like the Brazillian crowd to cheer for all teams but it is stupid for you guys to sit here typing stuff on keyboards while those guys actually spent money and time to watch the event and at least be there for the teams. I am pretty sure most of the people living in western countries like the USA or EU have enough money to fly to a third world country like Brazil where everything is cheaper.

A lot of the fans in the crowd were crying and heartbroken, you pussies would not think any better than them in that situation either. Could they have been a better crowd? Definitely. Could they have stayed for the trophy-lifting and interviews? Definitely. Are they the worst crowd yet? You would not be wrong to say yes. But I don't think you guys have the same kind of passion these Brazilian guys have for their teams. Apart from the 2 EU fans that actually went to Sao Paolo for the event, I don't think you guys deserve to bash the Loud fans this hard. Good sportsmanship is appreciated but never required. You could in a way say that the Brazilian fans did not do anything "extra". They just delivered the bare minimum.

This was the largest crowd yet. Events in Copenhagen (which had huge crowds in CSGO events btw) and Turkey were just snoozefests throughout, even on finals day you could see empty seats. EU should learn how to fill stadiums first before educating Brazilian fans when they are not even bothered to attend the events.

The criticisms regarding No AC and the treatment of fans is valid. But there are valid reasonings from Riot as well. Its hard to get AC in such a large open venue. Also, Brazil, is not a super peaceful EU nation that barely has violent crimes. Security is a prime concern in such big events to avoid any sort of terror activity in such countries. In most countries like Brazil and even India, the security at such events do not allow bags and water/food for your own safety. Yes its an inconvenience but its also a necessary precaution.

Agreed, and the size of the crowds in the early parts of the tournament were similar to the crowds in early parts of other tournaments, the venue was maybe like twice the seize of other international events so the crowd was more spread out.

There are more things going on outside the frame of the camera.

It's so funny to see these europeans hating on brazilian with the same etnocentric point of view of 100 years ago, they view themselves as better behaved than brazilians but don't know shit about our reality, try to stay in the streets on a late saturday to see what happens lol.
