I had a similar group assignment in my 2nd year, and we choose to analyzed basketball gameplay as some kind of a network using Graph Theory, you might want to use the same basis but change the theme to soccer per se.

Are you a college student or in high school? If you're still in high school, I don't think graph theory is covered in the curriculum..
