Optic’s Weakness

Icebox, Haven, and Breeze

They’ve shown they’re strong as hell on Pearl. The triple initiator is super well executed on Ascent. Their neon fracture is VERY good. And their bind is in contention for best in the world. I’d rank their maps Bind > Fracture > Pearl > Ascent > Haven > Breeze > Icebox (Pearl is still a bit of an unknown).

This map pool means XSET potentially could get a free map to start by getting Breeze or Haven. Then they only need to win on fracture or Pearl (def feasible) to beat optic. XSET has a greater chance than you’d think!

I’d also predict if optic don’t win on any of the three maps mentioned above, they won’t be able to win this tournament. Being able to win on haven/breeze against teams like DRX and Loud (who already might outmatch Optic on Fracture and Ascent respectively) is critical to a deep run. Excited to see what they break out in the next few games!!

their fracture is also super weak if they are playing against a team that knows how to counter their agressiveness

OpTic's Haven has historically been quite strong. It used to be one of their best maps. At Copenhagen, they were 2-1 on it beat XSET and Kru but lost pretty solidly to PRX. I have a feeling that the reason they have been banning it thus far at champs is that they wanted to keep it as an ace up their sleeves. Specifically for the Liquid game, when Liquid banned Fracture instead of Bind, I think OpTic felt confident they could keep Haven out of the map pool and still win (which is also why they keep letting Breeze through). I have a tough time believing that one loss would make OpTic super afraid of Haven, especially with so much time to prep from Copenhagen,

Icebox is a different story, and I can definitely see OpTic still being pretty bad at Icebox. However, XSET is not that much better. If their Haven is as strong as it used to be, they should be able to beat XSET and make a deep run, but I guess we will see tomorrow.

I don’t think it’s nearly as strong as it used to be unless they switched comps (I’m hoping for a fade raze thing). The neon one has been figured out by now.

Also they got more than beat they got DEMOLISHED. 13-3’s no joke

Their ascent is dogshit on attack wdym? Don’t let recency bias fool you, they have no clue how to play that comp and it shows when a team punishes it. All TL had to do was stop Optic at a choke point but for some reason they kept taking fights and thats not a good idea against yay(especially when he’s feeling it). Their haven is better than their ascent. This year Optic has a 21% attacking win pctg on Ascent

They need to go back to the original Icebox comp of Chamber, Sage, Kayo, Viper, and Fade/Sova. Most succesful comp they had on Icebox and it allows Marved to go back to Controller instead of playing Kayo.

Yay chamber, Victor Kayo, Marved Viper, FNS sage, Crashies Sova? I think FNS usually takes viper tho?

Yeah they played this in stage 1 and won most of their icebox maps.

Optic could def win on icebox and haven.
A lot of maps are tossups except breeze (for XSET) and bind for optic (unless they absolutely choke)

Neon-Breach is still good on Haven, we saw how Xerxia played it against KRU and completely shut them down.

Ok but you understand how vs KRU is a bit different than vs XSET, Loud, or DRX right?

I think it was more of a skill diff than a comp diff. OpTic got rolled three times running Neon on fracture, but now they look a lot better at it + other teams have found success as well. I think the neon role needs Victor to do at least decent and really good teamplay both of which OpTic has shown so far at champs. I think we may see a new comp, but if it follows the trend of Ascent and Fracture (two maps Optic lost a bunch recently) comps will stay the same but strats will be different

Optic is a defense team overall. So it doesnt really matter.

And as you saw today, XSET punished the hell out of Optic for not knowing how to play the comp. However Optic is the better team and they showed it today anyway

Their Haven is fine, IMO they can play top teams on the map(Mainly Loud and FNC) to the point where its not a weakness. It's true tho that they will lose on IB and Breeze which is a problem when they have to play LOUD and DRX and IB they can never beat a team like FPX. I still think they can win on all 5 other maps though against pretty much any team and their pick ban does look good in Bo3's as long as Haven is comfortable. As long as they ban Breeze and then ban IB against Loud they should be able to play Pearl Ascent and Haven/Fracture which IMO plays into their favor
