The traditional swiss is a non-eliminating format, true. But Valorant was certainly not the first to use eliminating swiss. Look at counter-strike, Rocket league, and im sure there are many others who implemented it way before valorant did in 2024.

And yes I have recognized basically since Madrid that 8-team swiss is essentially just double elimination with a bit of randomness added into the second and third rounds. But overall, I think its still a good format. Of course, I think swiss really shines in 16 team tournaments, not 8 team-brackets, but it is what it is.
