Watch cowboy beepop, it's structured like a western adult cartoon, extremely good.
Your lie in April is also a classic especially if you like your name, maybe you watched already tho.
Death note too, imo one of the best animes made especially if you're not into anime that much.
All these are pretty short but if you're looking for something longer watch HXH it's the best shounen by far and the only thing that comes close is Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.
Also a movie I heavily recommend to anyone even if you don't like anime is Grave of Fireflies. That movie is heartwrenching and extremely well made.
