i have been using a 5 dollar mouse from amazon ever since I started playing val (it was my first multiplayer fps). i am silver 3 currently and I have noticed recently I keep losing to my friends in custom deathmatches(they have way better hardware than me) so I guess my question is would getting a better mouse help me break into gold or plat? or does the mouse don't really matter much? if so what mouse do you recommend(reasonably priced ofc).

having better hardware doesn’t automatically make you a better player but it does help you climb the ranks slightly easier

i dont know if this is a cheap mouse problem but I have my cross hair on them and somehow always die first, is it because of high latency or something? i do well in almost every match, its just that I lose in deathmatch, my friends are mostly higher ranked than me. but I sometimes feel , I am losing duels I shouldn't have.

could be ping related, could be refresh rate related, i’d recommend playing some aim labs before you play comp for the day and see if that’s true. i was hardstuck plat 2 until i started doing aim labs and trying to improve my aim, and now i’m ascendant 1

do you recommend any specific aimlab exercises?

sixshot (under flicking) and reactive track (under tracking). both are incredibly good for building good fundamentals.

Logitech g305 is wireless and pretty cheap. It worked well for me and you'll notice that it moves a lot smoother.

edit: on sale for $40 now

choosing what mouse to use is always dependant on handsize

does a better mousepad change much? its the first time someone has told me to get a better mousepad too

Yeah it does. A mouse pad helps the mouse scan movement better so you’re gonna have smoother motion. If your computer hardware isn’t the best I’d just for like a $30/$40 logitech or razer mouse. I recommend the g305. Valorant was my first pc game ever and I’ve played about 275 hrs of comp since beta and used the g305 until i hit plat but recently been using the viper ultralight and hit diamond. But the g305 is light-ish and a good price. Also good response rate. If your pc hardware is good, then I’d probably go for something more expensive if you’re serious about improving. I like the viper ultra-light 2.0 but a lot of people prefer the logitech pro. But if you’re not trying to sweat there’s no need to spend much more than forty bucks on a mouse. But definitely a mousepad.

You can do a test to see if you really need a better mouse.

Start your mouse at one end of your mousepad and flick it to the other side as fast as possible. If you stop moving or your crosshair is at a completely different direction, then that's called spin-off and you probably want a better mouse.

I use a really bad 4$ mouse and I'm diamond 2. my mouse ghosts a lot and I usually play entry so I have to do 180s which is nearly impossible with my mouse and the only solution I found for this is increase ur sens to be super high like .5 or smthng or just get a new mouse altogether, I'd tell u to just not think about ur hardware much and play the game to improve ur fundamentals rather than worry about ur mechanical skill but if u have the funds to get like a good mouse then go for it

I had a mouse that did that and what helped for me was to crank the dpi as low as possible and just have a higher ingame sens

the thing is my mouse has a locked dpi, so my only go is to increase my ingame sens. Right now its like .44 or smthng and my dpi is locked at 1000 so yeah, it ghosts a shit load but it is what it is, ill eventually get a better mouse so all good

I’m pretty sure you can go into your settings and change dpi manually
