How To Save The T2/3 Scene With Franchising =)

Let's say we have 10 teams per league... Awesome, these teams are guaranteed a path to international tournaments, ad revenue, cosmetic revenue, etc. Whatever they have planned for them.

Tier 2 should work exactly like VCT... Meaning, we create regional leagues. Make sure they're being promoted, broadcasted, highlighted in socials etc. Now, unlike the VRL Finals which essentially lead to nothing more then a payday we could design it to winning a spot into international tournaments (along with a prize pool).

So, let's say we have 12 spots in Masters 1 in 2023... 8 of those are secured by the Pro-League and the other 4 are determined by the regional leagues. This way we get a constant flux of new teams in international play, new players, new stories etc. Something like CSGO with BLAST, ESL etc. And orgs would be willing to invest in salaries for these teams. Maybe not PRO LEAGUE salaries but, something.

Then, Riot could do like a Masters 1 Battlepass where proceeds go towards teams, or cosmetics or whatever idk. I might be a little all over the place but what do we think... Good or Trash?!?

My idea is kinda similar to the Pro League thing, except regionally so you have some kind of promotion/relegation system (like this year's). Say you have 12 Americas spots, you add 4 additional qualifier spots for T2 (maybe the Top 4 teams from the T2 league) then lower 2 teams relegate back into T2 league. Would be better if there were more league spots though

Only issue with T2 teams being involved with Pro-League is that it's a LAN league so... You run into an issue where teams are unable to relocate or participate.

But yes, overall this is a solid plan.

I think this just ruins the idea of how franchising secures them a spot in the league.
The idea of franchising is to ensure that there is long term investment from teams to keep Valorant going.

I like that but not with 12 teams.. maybe with 16 or 20 team at least so franchised teams will still be there

Thing is, how do you create regional leagues in the US? West vs East? CAN vs USA vs MEX? Most orgs are based in LA, Texas or NY I think

It's regional so, similar to what we have now right? LATAM North, LATAM South, Brazil & US. Maybe you can split the US into East & West or add a Canadian league but, an online league should be fine minus a few ping issues.

You could also have a relegation system installed to keep the top teams in the league and also keep orgs involved consistently.

totally agree with this system.
emea tier 2 can use current vrl system, except their finals winner get a spot in masters.
apac tier 2 can use current vct system, but their finals could devided into 2 finals which is north (jp, kr, china, hk/tw) and south (sea, sa, oce). each finals winner get a spot to the masters.
americas tier 2 can use current vct system as well, but there will be americas final consist of NA, BR and LATAM. the winners goes to masters.

I think we solved the problem... Someone grab RIOT!!! lol.

Hopefully they have a similar system planned and not completely kill the t2/3 scene. I know we got a tournament mode that'll somehow lead to pro play. We'll see...

Two parallel VCT-like circuits, each of them leading to a certain number of teams going to every Masters? Some through franchise, another through open tournament grindset?

I think it's a good idea, but Riot won't like it, as 2nd non-prestige circuit takes away attention, viewers and sponsors from what is supposed to be the main franchised competition

yeah i don't think the secondary circuit will have much support or much opportunity at all for that reason

they did confirm that challengers / other domestic leagues will be expanded and continue with franchising in the article though

Riot announced a NA Collegiate League so, maybe they’re opening up to new ideas. Plus, those sponsors can be involved in the grass root stuff as well. Win/Win

I think the only change I would make is that instead of the top team from regional league making it masters, it could be a mini tournament with the (lets say) 5th/6th place from franchising and top 2 from regional to fight out for the last spot. Or else some T1 teams might just be happier fighting the T2 path to Masters

My only problem would be “skill” difference between t1 and t2. There will be times that some t2 teams will actually be very competitive to t1 teams in masters but i think there will be a ton of times (if this t2 systems happens) that the t2 teams just bomb out because playing against other t2 teams to qualify is relatively easier that t1. I feel like if they do well in the regional leagues. I dont know how that would be fixed but they can host one more event like an LCQ where t1 teams that were close to qualifying and the best t2 teams fight for 2-4 more slots in masters.

I have a feeling this is the way it's going to be. I don't believe for a second rito is going to shoot themselves in the leg killing the t2 scene

NA over spending on unsustainable salaries as usual.

this is actually how its gonna be tbf. people are so pessimistic thinking franchise is all about OWL (garbage game). And it will be much better franchise than league franchise in balance-wise since there will be only 3 Continent League) unlike LoL who gave privilege to Korea by creating their own franchise.
