In his recent stream, Yay said he practices for 12-13 hours daily. Then there are other big name pros having 6-7 hours "free" time outside of practice but claims they have been working hard.

Facts that's some dedication fr, I'd be doing that too if I had nothing else going on in my life. Fair play to Optic, but I think sen don't give a shit since they already got a trophy. They lost the drive

I don't think that's the case. Every team wants to stay at top, not just win one trophy and be done with with.

Not saying every team doesn't, but I feel like people definitely would love some drive and motivation once they reach the top.

Fnatic doesn't need practice. Sometimes champions reveal themselves, being a winner is different. But if we look at the player, I really congratulate Yay he is having a great season. It is a great achievement for a person to take such care of his work and show it to everyone. One person's effort can change everything. LET'S GO OPTIC

Fnatic does need practice. Boaster comes up with a lot of heavily coordinated plays so ofc they need to practice them.

The fanatic formula is:
Roster change->Shit on everyone and make it to grandfinals just to lose 0-3->repeat

They have only made grand-finals once, in the very first masters event.

this is good but no one needs to practice 12-13 hours to be good, everyone has their own way

zywoo was twice best in the world in csgo and is one of the best atm and he only played dm basically, he didn't hard grind in FPL for example

usually over-practice , over-play leading to burn out. But in Yay case, seems like hard work pays off. I think he enjoy playing the game/practing 13h a day so not the problem

fatigue doesn't get him, and he can use it to his advantage

You see teams that work like this find a lot of success too like EG. Eg also practice a lot and like 6 days a week too.

#16

pretty sure every team practices at least 6 days a week, some more than once a day

#24
Ullyr

they don't not to the extent of 12+ hours a day. Some probably do 6-8 then play rank or call it a day.

esports is mad unhealthy. every other human puts in 40 hours a week and get promoted, makes a long lasting career, and enjoys their free time. these gamers act like you have to practice 12 hours a day 7 days a week to reach your full potential.

try showering, being active, and having a healthy schedule and see how that improves performance maybe? you don’t see actual athletes practicing in the sun 12 hours a day. maybe online athletes shouldn’t stress their mental in a dark room 12 hours a day. my 2c

lowkey facts, and most of these esports pros are financially illiterate

as are most 40hr week workers, including me tbh, but you are certainly correct.

eSports is cutthroat compared to other jobs. It's also less physically demanding than other sports. Professional athletes don't practice that much because of potential fitness issues, so naturally an industry where there is a ton of competition without the limitation of physical health will usually result in hard grinders and freakish talent reaching the top. The constant updates and changing metas require dedication and hours to be able to adapt.

Not to mention the early burnout/retirement age. eSports is all about high risk high reward. You get paid a lot more than the average worker at the cost of harsher working conditions and early retirement.

It's just simply the nature of eSports. If you don't grind as much as the others you'll usually be surpassed.

"less physically demanding" is just not the right way of putting it. Carpal tunnel, back problems, issues with core strength, general lethargy, are all issues that can happen when you're spending this much time doing one thing, especially when it exacts a heavy mental toll, not even including all of the mental health/physical manifestations of depression and anxiety that can result from overworking in any profession, let alone one of the most stressful in the world.

while there are a number of health related problems that stem from excessive gaming, physical sports are inherently, well, physical, and often involve a lot of contact and utilisation of many muscle groups. I think it's certain to say that an 8 hour session of traditional sports will be far likely to incur a physical injury compared to an 8 hour gaming session. Certain team-based sports such as basketball, baseball, football, American Football, hockey, etc. involve contact injuries as well. I'm not saying that eSports doesn't come with health issues, I'm saying that they come with less compared to traditional sports. Which is true.

I also did not explicitly touch on the severe mental strain being an eSports professional carries, but I alluded to it in my original post.

12 hours a day kinda too much ngl

not everyone can prac for 12-13hrs that might be the work ethic that optic are going with but it doesnt mean every team should be doing it as well coz most people would get burned out if they play for that long and optic have a lot of people to back them up like assistant coaches and analysts so fns doesnt have to work as much as shah and rawkus which leads to exhaustion, it isnt the issue with any of the players its the management who really doesnt seem to care much about what the players need to succeed

#28

Any team should also don't have 7-8 hour free time after prac and someone utilise that as "streaming"

#29

as of rn we cant say anything, everything u guys are saying are just assumptions and if i try to defend sen its just gonna be with assumptions as well so its just bettter to leave them be instead of hating on them and make their life miserable, they are humans as well just let them be and they will figure something out and as for the streaming thing it could literally be anything, again, only assumptions can be used. Support from their fans is what they need rn coz their situation is really bad, they DONT deserve this much hate just coz they are streaming for 7-8 hrs, people are going too far and making stupid narratives up

okokok, I've been working as a team manager for ages and 13 hours a day is INSANE, actually stupid. never have i ever heard of a player actually practicing for 13 hours. that's ridiculous.

My current team practices for around 3 hours a day and I'm happy with that.

Been a trend for the past year. I usually just stop reading any comments after I see Sen, Shahz, or Tenz in it. It's all the same shit over and over again.

What do the hours for pro’s actually look like? Do they have a full time 40h contract like a normal job. Or is it like football where they have 40h contractually but only train like 5h a day and play matches

If he can practise 12-13 hours a day, he should have stick to csgo or even switch to fortnite because that's the games actually to get rich fast
