Tbh don't think most people call Dune best sci-fi book. It's a seminal example of the genre, but it's widely acknowledged amongst readers that it's not a flawless, amazing, or even easily readable book.

Same thing for Tolkien - dude was born in thr 1800s. While LOTR is extremely well written and birthed much of the modern fantasy genre, I think people are generally aware that it can be hard to get into because of how old the writing is.

Honestly haven't met too many people who call either of these books their favs. I g2g now but ill come back later and drop some recs, this is something I could talk about forever
