I can’t really say anything as ZETA was kinda mid at Kickoff but 💀

posted 3 weeks ago

ZETA - time
TS - revitalization, NDG wasn’t enough
TLN - firepower, Governor can’t carry the over the line alone
GE - firepower, 4 igls and 1 duelist isn’t enough
RRQ - honestly they’re good, I don’t think they need to change much
DFM - no hope
BLD - yay.

I will take that L elegantly, you are in fact right - however, the video was not very good at explaining everything it seems

ya I’m just reviewing the format and everything, and I just don’t think it makes sense that every playoffs win would grant you a point; that would just reward teams who placed 3rd-6th as they have to play an extra match. Also, that would mean that Stage 2 playoffs would have points up for grabs as well, which in my mind would not make too much sense either.

posted 4 weeks ago

although it’s still a little vague, I’m pretty sure you don’t get any points throughout playoffs unless you win the whole thing

currently, SEN has 6 points while every other Americas team has 0.

Now, there are still a few opportunities to get points: Stage 1 League Stage (1 point per win), Stage 1 Playoffs (3 points for winning), Masters Shanghai (3 points for winning), and Stage 2 League Stage (1 point per win).

The maximum points a team can get from here on out that is not SEN is 16 points (flawless 10 wins during both league stages, winning stage 1 playoffs, and winning Shanghai).

Theoretically, SEN need 10 more points to secure their spot in Champions. However, no team is going to fulfill all three of the aforementioned conditions AND on top of that not make top 3 of Stage 2. Therefore, although it is not mathematically proven, I believe SEN only need around 7 more points to secure their spot to Champions. This provides a buffer for a team going flawless during both league stages and winning Stage 1. Remember, the top 3 in Stage 2 make it to Champions anyways, so this is if SEN do not make top 3 in Stage 2. Considering how tight the competition is, I believe this reasoning to be fairly logically sound.

TLDR: SEN probs only need 7 more points to qualify for Champions at the end of the year.

Edit: it has come to my attention that you get points for playoffs wins too (kinda weird imo, but riot’s rules), so you can get 5 more points by winning some playoffs games for both Stage 1 and 2 without directly qualifying to Champions and not winning Stage 1 playoffs. So, if you’re not SEN you can get 21 points. My stance still remains pretty similar, however, with a small tweak. SEN need to make playoffs at least once to solidify themselves as a team playing in Champions.

I still think two slots is more than enough for Japan in terms of competitiveness, but in terms of viewership Japan most definitely deserves three slots. It just depends how you look at things.

get rid of VCT China
create VCT East Asia

  • 4 Chinese teams
  • 3/4 Korean teams
  • 2/3 Japanese teams

VCT Pacific changes

  • remove the Korean and Japanese teams
  • add an OCE, VN, etc. team since 5 teams got moved

This way, we get more representation in Pacific, China gets better competition with Korea, and there will be more diverse slots in Champions (4 from EA doesn’t necessarily mean 4 from China)

thoughts?

I mean 4/6 teams in the playoffs have 2 Korean players. Japanese talent has not fully blossomed yet, and we will have to wait and see if it actually does in the next few years.

There is no point system for qualifying to Masters Shanghai; it will be similar to the qualifiers for Masters Tokyo last year (Top 3). You still do get a point for each win in the group stage, however, as well as three points for winning the entire qualifier. These points will qualify the team with the most points in each region directly into Champions at the end of the year, regardless of performance during Split 2 (you still get a point for winning a group stage game during Split 2, as well as three points for winning the whole qualifier; also, top 3 for Split 2 will qualify to Champions for a total of four teams from each region).

I agree. Even with the top of the top pros too, who knows what will happen 10 or 20 years from now? Do we really know what is going to happen when TenZ turns 50? Will he still be a popular streamer? What will his income look like? Who knows? TenZ specifically probably already has enough money to live out the rest of his days but that's besides the point. School guarantees a career in almost any desired field, with a constant flow of money to boot. Get laid off? You can find another job that is at least going to pay you some amount of money. Esports right now is very volatile; like what happened to crazyguy, you could be dropped without much notice. It very much is a high risk low reward ecosystem right now. If you are not a player on a Partnership team, there are very few paid opportunities presented. I would not be able to say that Egoist made the right decision, but I can for sure tell you he made the smart one.

posted 1 month ago

I believe the retirement tweet is reasonable evidence to assume Egoist lost his drive to compete. If he had not decided to go back to school and instead continued to pursue esports, I am certain he would have remained on BLEED. I mean I can’t read Egoist’s mind, but I believe something clicked after being eliminated from Kickoff. I would also appreciate it if you would not discredit me by just saying I was creating a narrative out of nothing; it is very distasteful. I am happy to continue to discuss this with you, but just straight up saying I am lying is not cool.

Edit: I want to correct what I said about being certain Egoist would have remained on BLEED. Although my main points still stand, he may have been removed regardless of whether he chose to continue competing.

“Hello I have been benched. As I personally feel esports is not worth pursuing anymore, I have decided to retire as a player to focus on my university studies. Thank you to everyone I have met on this 10 year journey. 💜“

I interpreted the retirement tweet as the fact he lost his drive to compete. I think it is reasonable to assume he lost his drive to compete because he literally states he does not believe esports is something worth pursuing.

might be an unpopular opinion, but I’m genuinely glad yay gets another chance with this team. I do feel these roster changes are reactionary, however. I know Egoist lost his drive to compete and I don’t know what really happened with crazyguy, but it definitely was too soon to make changes. Even with the bad situation, though, they got some of the best players they could. I’m happy to see Zest back in action for Partnerships, and Retla is a solid player who has been on Bleed multiple times in the past. I hope to see this team succeed going into Split 1, even with all the questionable decisions, factors, and performances.
