Somewhat unrelated but on the topic of best friends, I once had a highly right-leaning radical best friend from a certain state in a faraway land across the sea. This dude would come up with the most unethical ideas (ex. eugenics to control human population), argue with liberal students, but be an absolutely goated friend at the same time.
This best friend of mine moved away a while ago to a highly liberal city in europe, and the next thing I know, he's the most changed person I have ever known. No more racism, no more homophobia, no more crazy ideas. It might sound good if you don't know him because those are all negative thinking traits he's lost, but to me it felt like he was a different person all togethe, which created a distance between us I feel like I was never able to close.
However, what's worse is that since I had tolerated all of his old ways of thinking, he had always seen me as someone very similar to himself, and when he came to visit, I could tell that he saw me as someone who has never changed. Still good friends though.
I never did get to cuddle with him.
tldr: I was thinking of cuddling with best friends and went on a walk through memory lane and now I'm too lazy to delete this (kind of unrelated) text I actually put thought into writing.
