As for Cloud9 they could have replaced maybe Xeppaa or zellsis but then Vanity would have had to pick up the initiator role

Cloud9 and 100 Thieves tried their best to get him. Knights refused to let him go.
Knights manager addressed this in the Wisemen podcast (you can watch it on Hiko's channel). Long story short he said they had invested too much time and money into skuba and getting the team synergy going to just let him go. And he added that they worked hard to develop skuba into a good player and it's not fair to expect them to just let him go the moment he gets good or starts having some success (seems fair from their perspective but sucks for Skuba)
