“the less you talk the less mistakes you make” - some guy
The argument of “sudden meta changes ruining teams” is overused. We can all agree it is unfortunate for teams that have “mastered a certain meta(g2 tejo)” but that shouldn't mean their ability to play around the standard meta and adjust is gone. By now, valorant being up for 5 years means that the best teams in the game are those that prioritize micro over macro and know how to adjust to whatever the meta is. The game doesn't only boil down to comp preparation and map strategy. Most of the game winning rounds were mostly caused because teams were able to play off each other better, (good timings, double swings, hard reads, mid rounds, when to be proactive or passive, etc) A good example is fnatic being able to get a lot of rounds against prx in pearl despite only having 12 rounds of practice in scrims. They played very good micro without having amazing preparation.
People seem to forget that the prize for winning champions is 1mil dollars as opposed to the 350k in a masters. People also seem to forget that the first masters of the year only have 8 teams competing, and the second masters have only 12 teams (1st seeds instantly in playoffs btw) as opposed to champs which have 16 teams on equal footing. At the end of the day, it is named valorant champions tour for a reason–teams since the beginning of the season are given time to prepare and build/rebuild till cutoffs and they are given three chances to win a tournament, champions being that last and final chance. Considering all this:
Champions > Master 1 + Master 2
Master 2 > Master 1
Champions = Master 2 + Master 2 (But even then having the title as a world champion is a statement and is remembered more, i.e., Aspas, Jawgemo, KangKang)
I would like to think that EWC will be more raw. The prize-pool alone should give teams enough motivation for them to be hungry and it will be interesting to see teams find ways to adjust with the short amount of time they are given between matches. Also back to back matches work really well in a game like valorant since it’s so momentum based.
EWC will have a larger prize pool, back to back matches (bringing momentum and testing mental/endurance), 16 of the best teams, and equal footing since they will all compete at group stage.
It may or not have better production and a larger audience but can we argue that this might be a more competitive tournament?
I would argue Locked//In event was something everyone didn't really prep for. Fnatic was a newly built roster then, and they spent more time preparing for the more important masters and champs that year.
Unfortunately there's a pattern of teams that won the recent event bombing out of the next event early
Imagine if DRX wins champs tho. Long shot, but you never know nowadays with all these insane runs (ex., Wolves, T1)
Would argue that everyone else on the team did an equal job helping each other. No one was really better than the other except for f0rsaken.
this is for those who think he didnt deserve it and are underrating f0rsaken as a top player
I hate the narrative that f0rsaken didn’t deserve it when he made a huge amount of adjustments for him and his team to make it here.
played with aspas a few times when he was in seoul, tenz, zekken, c0m. but i also usually see apac pros in ranked here and there. clip with aspas: https://x.com/calebtft/status/1817994256063320227
