You're not wrong that it's their fault, but there's also the fact that the swiss stage teams are warmed up and have all the momentum. Not having to play the swiss becomes a disadvantage rather than an advantage at that point. I also think that the AFL format is simply better than this double elim playoff.

All 4 #1 seeds lost to swiss stage teams... The #1 seeds should have an advantage, but in this format they actually have a disadvantage. You can do the same thing with the top 4 seeds starting in the playoffs but by doing double elimination groups into AFL playoff. That way the top seeds have an actual advantage and an extra cushion for not having played yet. Also less unnecessary matches and no rematches until the grandfinal. Tell me how that's not infinitely better.
