tbf the "world cup" is just a name that they decided to give it. It is similar to champs as in theory the 4 best teams of each region will attend it, but it has less prestige and less money involved.

If you are actually asking and not just baiting, Its a competition that has been happening every year in Riyad, Saudi Arabia, there are lots of games from every genre that gets played there, orgs get paid more if they are successful across all games.

Last year riot was already present with LoL and I think TFT, this is the first year for Valorant, Valorant should be present for the next couple of years.

Some ppl are against it, because it is part of the plan of the Saudi Arabian government to diversify their resources for the future by generating tourism, because at some point they will run out of oil (their main source of income), and they also hope to change the image the western world has of them

You miss a lot of the plays, can't see what the other team is doing, your favourite streamer is prob not watching it, no replays

Pros that I really like:

Makes it easier for us to see how good some players really are, finding out about new streamers (really liking Beyaz, SergioFfera and Ilidyuh streams), and Idk a sense of "community" as ppl were fighting for the broadcast rights and searching for the streams instead of just tuning in for a match

The problem is a cultural/generational one, It sucks but its not up to Valorant to fix society

While I understand that Valorant can be tiring to play for many days in a row, specially for coaches and IGL (they will barely get sleep getting a plan ready for next match), I feel like players have lost perspective.

In the end, they are getting payed (ranging from a decent amount to a lot) to play games. 6-10 years ago, gamers were paid a lot less and most had to work "real" jobs at some point so they would value gaming more, but now kids start earning cash pretty early (16~, already getting monthly 6k dollars at 18).

And it changes from player to player/team to team, like Fr0d on the MIBR blog, after losing the third place match to G2 (if they won they would qualify for EWC), he said that he was sorry, because he knew what that meant for the players (Its a lot of money for Brazilians and newcomers specially like Xenon, Cortezia and Artzin), so they (MIBR) want to qualify, while some teams (Fnatic comes to mind, G2 maybe) would rather not qualify.
