Sea fans only watches tier 1 anyways specifically more towards prx(except ID and TH tier 2s, both are higher than average sea t2 views but still not that great, even that aren't enough to offset other regions', the views are just not there), so there's not really much of an incentive for riot to serve the fans when Soop just essentially handed riot free money.

also you're right about their marketing, they suck ass.

posted 9 months ago

Ultimately it's not about the viewerships, it's about how low can riot keep the deficit while operating the scene i.e how to not lose too much money. Might seem short sighted at face value, but the soop deal might actually saved riot more than people would like to admit.

posted 9 months ago

Maybe yes, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter. If riot can gain viewerships eventually orgs will tap in to valorant because why wouldn't they? Have you seen how hard fennel tried to squeeze the trio right till the very end before they left for zeta πŸ˜‚. That's what a good viewership region can do to an org

posted 9 months ago

Fr, this time prx has been very inactive joining only 1 off season while dfm and zeta joins 3, I do think there needs to be more tier1x tier 2 off-seasons especially in sea.

posted 9 months ago

Pc gaming in sea are never as big as their mobile scene anyways except Vietnam and taiwan even those only apply to league. Might as well die trying πŸ˜…

posted 9 months ago

You're right, but his tierlist is an insult to my intellect πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

posted 9 months ago

Trying to apply my marketing major here πŸ˜‚

Jokes aside, I think to increase t2 viewerships you need to increase your playerbase in general. Or make your t2 a spectator sport like japan, where the views are abundant but doesn't translate to playerbase.

Maybe, riot can :

  1. make prx hold an off season where t2 sea teams vs prx , since sea is dying in viewerships and somehow everyone on sea only watches prx the exposure t2 teams receive would be great.

  2. Tap into mobile gaming segment

Yeah but zeta and dfm overhauled their roster and they looked much much better now. So putting both zeta and dfm on the bottom just doesn't make any sense

Viewerships don't earn the scene and riot as an extention money, like modern mba( great channel btw) puts it, viewership are just "vanity metrics" , but what viewership does is:

  1. Attract more orgs to join the scene, because more views = more merch purchased = orgs earns more money by tapping in the market

  2. Attracts more sponsors, more viewership = more exposure towards brands = more sponsors = more capital flowing in, this is why japan t2 have 16 sponsors in split 2 in contrast to other regions

  3. More skin sales, self-explanatory

  4. Generate interests around the scene

  5. Allows for more off season events

  6. Gives the region more leverage compared to others

  7. Etc

It should've been obvious and needs not to be said but I've seen many people here overestimates or underestimates what viewerships can do.

If anything riot actually benefitted more from this.

Soop wouldn't be buying streaming rights if riot didn't merge sea. But riot know sea is a bottomless pit that's about to be merged regardless soop bought them or not. So in short, not only riot saved tons of money, they also earned more money from the streaming rights in the process, and to add no one will watch soop anyways the streaming rights purchase really came into clutch.

Marketing isn't cheap and riot knew that, they manage to save the scene without spending anymore marketing spending.

From this pov soop really looked like an idiot imo.

posted 9 months ago

I've never been so offended by a tier list.

posted 9 months ago

This was probably before soop bought the streaming rights. With soop buying the streaming rights ( which should be extremely huge for riot to accept because if it's not then it's a stupid move from riot), I think riot won't complain if the viewership drops.

He's immortal and still plays osu more than valorant, and from his clips it looks like if he commits more time into it he can be a great player.

Also, from what I can see, he's the best osu player from Japan, is this true?

They will attend for main stage

I only put both on when any event involving jp is ongoing, anything beyond that I'm usually flag and flairless.

It's sacred for me tho

I've only watched 3 minutes of the video it seems like a good video, quite enjoy it

Actually Japan can stretch 3 teams now(emphasis on the word stretch). It's just they don't have a good coach imo(unless they are poaching one). No, it's not riddle roster either.

I have Fennel's recipe for success right here πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Hiroronn Sentinel
Aace Controller
Minty flex
Lefiedot - initiator/IGL
Honeybunny Duelist

depths of Japanese CS

You are better off searching from their Fortnite scene ( Gyen, Merem, and many other kids below 17 become pros here), R6 (Gatorada, ayagator etc) and Osu ( Chocopafe)πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Oh really? Shit guess I've trusted liquidpedia too much because all I did is just open liquidpedia πŸ˜‚. No I have no source on this

posted 9 months ago

You can tho, for japan there's 4 spots for those who qualified from split 3, meanwhile the other 4 ( I assume split 1 will have 8 teams) will just be through qualifiers as usual

posted 9 months ago

Say, is 3000 usd that worth it for xerxia/NKT to forfeit split 3? Just curious

posted 9 months ago

Zeta and dfm should be B tier, dfm almost won against rrq and won against talon, while zeta won against dfm in a close battle.

Actually this time riot is in charge of sea split 3

This screams massive miscommunication between both riot and especially predator's part πŸ˜‚

posted 9 months ago

It's probably fennel or murash ( they really need him lol)

posted 9 months ago

They can handle japan tho, or rather off season in japan schedule wise looked better than SEA's.

posted 9 months ago

Forfeiting riot sanctioned event for an off season event seems like a stupid decision tbh. But this is xerxia and nkt, so they probably think they can qualify to next year's split 1 without needing to qualify through split 3.

Regardless I don't think it's riot's fault tho, there's not really anywhere else to put split 3 in. If anything it's actually Thai predator league's fault for causing this schedule issues because japan finished their's almost 2 weeks earlier.

posted 9 months ago

The only reason why I want VCJ to be poorer is so orgs can't import anymore considering we have gazillion academy players (honeybunny, airy, lefiedot etc) and good players like (hals minty and aace etc) still not on a team, but then again if orgs pays piss-poor salaries then only few people in japan would be willing to be playing professionally now πŸ˜‚.

I'm not talking about real Korean fans, but the some koreaboos here are indeed very annoying. They rate teams based on how many koreans are on the team.

Nvm no surgeries but the falling down the stairs were real

posted 9 months ago

Knowing what roles lob usually plays, I'm thinking what happen in dfm was gyen and art were switching roles.

That could mean even though this iteration of dfm have great firepower( primarily on gyen meiy and akame) but they are kinda nerfed by role issues

What falling down from stairs and having to undergo surgery do to a man

Edit: sorry there's no surgery lol but he did fall down the stairs

I'll combine point 1 and 4 since we're almost on the same page now πŸ˜‚ and i just wanna add some more points. I definitely agree that riot understands that esports are just markering tool and not something to find profit at, but they know they can't just throw money into a bottomless pit that's why they need to make changes/sacrifices. My frustration with vlr is they can't seem to or refuse understand this concept ( I'm referring to the bolded words)

  1. On the contrary I actually think eu fans discuss their t2 scene the most out of all 4 regions. But you have a point tho I might be wrong about this.

  2. The reason I say this is people make it out as if japan has never made improvements at all where they actually have been but people are just being ignorant. While I do think they are far from great( if I'm not wrong t2 jp sucks at attacking), it's not the worst of the worst is what I'm trying to say πŸ˜…

  3. I take that back, it's still too early to say, riots I cannot determine how riot wants to position their games yetπŸ˜….

posted 9 months ago

I mean I do observe tier 3 ( premier contender division, offline tournaments , high school tournaments) its just tier 2 watchers are the minority let alone tier 3, i only know people from emea who usually do that because it's listed on vlr, I had to search any japanese tournaments that's not t2 or premier thorugh twitter πŸ˜… ,we are the minority of the minority here πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  1. Esports fans are the worst customer to deal with and hence serve limited if not long-run-negative value for riot.

  2. Vlr actually don't care about tier 2 they only care when it's about to be merged.

  3. Japan isn't as bad as what people make them out to be.

  4. When talking about franchising and the scene as a whole vlr only consider things 90% if not purely from competitive perspective which limits their viewpoint hence the flaw in their line of thinking(which leads back to point number 1) , in reality there's many factors to consider.

  5. Riot SUCKS at marketing, especially in regions that are unfamiliar with gaming, even in places that are familiarwith gaming they remained mediocre or even sucked worse than unfamiliar ones since they should've had the easier job . Kohei ( head of riot jp) looked like a god when you compare jp to other regions.

posted 9 months ago

Doesn't mean the point doesn't apply now. Other regions can grow too and Japan is trying their best to catch up.
