what does it take for a chinese team to "look good" in your opinion?
EDG were for the latter half of 2023 the 6th best team and FPX probably were on a similar level at Shanghai.
is that the minimum expectation?

posted about a year ago

EDG is honestly pretty dog, even at their best they never even had a chance at beating top teams
FPX look like they can change that

fpx is good ik, but fut lost to fpx

PRX threw against GENG because they need to save strats to bring the trophy home for CHAMPIONS SEOUL 2024, which is the only tournament that actually matters. Their only true competition is SENTINELS and my glorious king TENZ.

posted about a year ago

i think they should run it back cus they were unlucky the latter half of the split, having to go aginst GEN for qualification.

yay's champs 22 rating was higher akshully🤓

posted about a year ago

1.25 rating at berlin gives him a better rating than notable performances such as

  • mako lock//in (1.23)
  • demon1 champs 23 (1.23)
  • pancada champs 22 (1.21)
  • yay reykjavik 21 (1.19)
posted about a year ago

if we were to give a specific point it should be after berlin

posted about a year ago

first u can't have two primes. there's by definition only one.
second his performance this year is good but not great, disrespectful to compare this type of performance with reykjavik tenz

posted about a year ago

TS won a 3-map OT seeding match against GEN and now they're apparently getting second in playoffs😭

posted about a year ago

of the top 4 teams of 2022 (LOUD, OPTIC, DRX, NAVI), DRX is the only team to have maintained any semblance of form, especially when LOUD/OPTIC core didn't even make stage 2 playoffs, and NAVI, if they do make playoffs, are going to get smushed. It's a far stretch to even say that any of the other teams should even be considered "good" from a broad perspective of that word.

one of them is guaranteed to get top 3 the other is guaranteed through points

I guess teams like GE and BLEED are considered "mid-high" now?

lacking a value in consistency can lead to shit teams like T1 qualifying through a once in a lifetime series

posted about a year ago

there was no confusion? i'm confused at your confusion.
he's pointing out the fact that getting second at an international event doesn't help a team with qualifying through champs points despite the purpose of these points being for consistent teams to get through.
i think more than that though the issue is that winning a regional awards the same number of points as winning a masters.

posted about a year ago

In what way is TS surprising except that they beat GENG once in a seeding match (and PRX once ig), as compared to GENG who went from being projected as mid-tier Pacific to the best team in the world?

TLDR: More pros are Asian because when Asians play games, it's oftentimes Valorant, not because of stupid generalizing statements Americans make up.

I've lived in two hotspots for Koreans, that being Los Angeles and the Chicago suburbs, and the Koreans I met there couldn't have been more different from a general standpoint (specifically a contrast between ABG/ABB and kids who study their asses off). And yet even in LA where parents were much more relaxed and oftentimes much more wealthy too, no Korean parent I've ever known to a proper degree would've supported their kid's career in an esport.

Why? Remember that these first-generation Korean parents are the same ones that come from the generation who were the first notable esports players (think old StarCraft players like BoxeR). They don't have the perceptions of esports as a career that modern native Koreans do, and that's probably the same case with Chinese who I find to be culturally very similar.

To address the topic of Asians being "richer" as a general term, also note that firstly, this data is heavily skewed by the presence of Indian-Americans, who are not the target of this conversation. Additionally, also note that Asian-Americans have the most income inequality of any ethnicity in the United States, meaning that added to their limited population (broadly), the Asians who can afford high-end gaming gear are not a lot of people.

But I digress, there are proportionally a lot of ethnically Asian pros in NA. Listing them up:

Viet: supamen, TenZ (half), Derrek
Filipino: Zekken (half), Cryocells
Cambodian: Jawgemo
Korean: s0m

Notice they are mostly SEA, which means that the generalizing statements made by Americans based on their uneducated perceptions of East Asians are ridiculous, and simply another instance of Americans trying to pretend they know Asians better than Asians themselves. So why are there quite a few Asians (inclusive of T2)? Simply put, more pros are Asian because when Asians play games, it's oftentimes Valorant.

i think that in 2022 pancada had a slight edge over mako in all because ofc loud won champs.
but mako was also the 7th best rated player of 2023 despite drx performing poorly that year (and continuing to do so now)
