why do american call it soccer(usa)

idk sometimes it gets confusing in my household bc im indian living in america, if someone says football i have no idea which one they are talking about unless i hear like a name or something

because they want to be different

because they sucker at football, Mexico always humble them at CONCACAF

So I just looked it up. Apparently "soccer" was coined by the British. And both soccer and football were essentially interchangeable in Britain until the 1980s. Then for some reason, Britain decided to stop using soccer in favor of football and in turn used soccer to refer to the American context of the sport AKA American soccer.

Idk but as a fan of the NFL I call it hand egg now

we have a different sport that we call football, so to differentiate, we use a different name

Britain made it then decided they preferred football, the US went the other way
