I've seen a lot of confusion about standings. Not just in now, but even in prior years, so here I will explain how tiebrakers work, please spread the word

If there is a tie between 2+ teams, then H2H rules are applied to find the BEST TEAMS (important that it's only the best teams). the hierarchy is:

  1. H2H match score
  2. H2H map diff
  3. H2H round diff
  4. Overall map diff
  5. Overall round diff

While a 2-team tiebraker is pretty easy to understand, I will explain 3-way and 4-way ties
3-way tie
Imagine there are 3 teams tied at the top: FNC, AG, MIBR, and their H2H scores are: FNC 2-0 AG, AG 2-1 MIBR, MIBR 2-1 FNC

  1. We look at their H2H match score: all teams are 1-1, so we continue
  2. We look at their H2H map diff: FNC are 3-2, AG are 2-3, MIBR are 3-3. FNC have the best diff (+1), therefore they are #1. NOW, IMPORTANT STEP. Once the BEST subset was identified (in this case it's just FNC), the tiebraker is applied to remaining teams FROM THE START
  3. So, even though MIBR had H2H map diff of 0, and AG had -1, it doesn't matter, because now that FNC isn't relevant anymore, we only look at AG vs MIBR. And since in this hypothetical, AG 2-1 MIBR, AG would be #2, and MIBR would be #3

4-way tie
Imagine there are now 4 teams tied at the top: FNC, AG, MIBR, PRX, and their H2H scores are: FNC 2-0 AG, AG 2-1 MIBR, MIBR 2-1 FNC, PRX 2-0 FNC, MIBR 2-0 PRX, AG 2-0 PRX

  1. We look at their H2H match score: MIBR and AG are both 2-1, while FNC and PRX are both 1-2
  2. We have identified the BEST SUBSET: MIBR and AG, so we look at them separately now. AG beat MIBR, so AG are #1, MIBR are #2
  3. Now we look at the remaining teams, FNC and PRX. PRX beat FNC, so PRX are #3, FNC are #4

I truly hope I explained it well, and there should be no more confusion about how things work

I'm getting confused cause in both examples FNC isn't 2nd and that seems unrealistic to me

Pretend they are vitality(second hand Fnatic) and itll make sense

It makes sense for the four way tie but I'm supposed to imagine Vitality coming first in a three way tie?? I dont think so

Then imagine that case as fnatic

I can believe it, as long as they go 1-2 after the tie

If its fnatic in 1st place, its fnatic
If its fnatic not in 1st place, its vitality
Very simple function
