hamburger ingredients were only added later on. You can also do these same ingredients with a sandwich. ultimately, the only difference is the bread which for hamburger is a bun. a star shaped bread isn't always going to be a bun

In America, Burgers are exclusively hamburgers. Buns don't really play a factor in what we call anything, we would still call a beef patty between normal sliced bread a burger.
