im currently year 12, and this year I need to lock in and get all my NCEA credits at a high level. yeah I can do allat but my parents expect me to do scholarship, and yes I want to get some too, but most of the time I lack motivation to do anything. I want to do software engineering in uni, but I also have this fear of not getting any job opportunities in the future because of ai, so if not this, then what else?

either work as a computer hardware engineer / maintenance and just sit on your ass maintaining servers or work in AI development
I've always been decent at coding and liked it when I was a kid, I still enjoy it to a certain extent
if you want to study something because you like it and want to be good at it, thats a great reason to do it imo
also, i doubt they wont innovate within your study to adapt to changes in tech
If you want to do software engineering, learn low-level languages like C++ or even go into hardware-description ones like VDHL or SystemVerilog. AI is absolutely horrible at low level languages. Cybersecurity is also a good field.
Personally I would recommend for now just starting with a general engineering or computer science degree and then choosing what to specialize in later since for the first two years your essentially just doing pre-reqs and getting all the general stem courses out of the way. Though I also recommend meeting with an academic counselor during your first semester and voicing your concerns and letting them help you.
