anyone know why the middle east is not primarily called west asia?
we call parts of asia: east asia, southeast asia, south asia, central asia, north asia(russia) but why is the middle east called the middle east.

Im not asian, but it might be because Europeans see themselves as the center of the world and the middle east is east of them
It's literally always the fault of Eur**e for anything bad. Anything good comes from America and Asia. Sadly eur**e messed up Africa so bad that they cant have anything good

not trying to simply the culture in this case tbh. Middle east is just located on the west side of asia in general so it makes sense to be called west asia.
Oh I'm not implying that you're saying that, I read it some where that Europeans did that because they had a bias of themselves being the centre of the world, which is fine and they could've simplified the whole region based on the one religion and hence they called it middle East, I mean it had way much more than that, but I forgot most of it

Because relative to Britain/Western Europe, China/Korea/Japan etc is the ‘Far East’, Afghanistan/Iraq/Saudi etc is the ‘Middle East’, and Turkey/Eastern Europe etc is the ‘Near East’
I guess the “Near East” never stuck, but Far East is still a thing. Neither on the level of “Middle East” though

it’s a relatively outdated term, the same way “Oriental” isn’t really used anymore outside of like, Chinese-run businesses in Chinatown or Museums. People don’t really use it in regular conversation, it’s more of a term you learn from the news/media.
We would just refer to the regions normally (east asia, SEA etc.)
However, in most parts of the country, “Asian” as a racial descriptor is commonly used to refer to South Asians instead of East Asians (like in America for example)
Because the middle east also includes part of europe, and west asia is only a few of the countries and only part of turkey.
And europe thinks they are the middle of the world, so its east part of the middle

Because it’s based on British politics and colonialism during the British India Office. They lumped every individual culture and country into a single term as the region was viewed as just a route to pass by. If you think about it, it’s actually slightly racist.
In the Han and Tang dynasty, China referred to them as 西域, which means Western Region.
In the Ming Dynasty, China referred to them as 泰西, which also means Western something.
However they preferred to refer to them by their individual names, like 安息 Parthian Empire (where Iran and Iraq is), 波斯 (Persia), 条支 (Mesopotamia), 大食 (Arab Empire) and 大秦 (Roman or Byzantine Empire).
Nowadays Chinese also call the Middle East the direct translation 中东, which you can blame the British empire for.
i guess because most of asia while it has its differences also has very obvious similarities in culture and such
however the middle east is completely different in every way imaginable
