nah no one cares imo except from gooners and self proclaimed cinephile who's favourite movie is probably some 70 year old 10 hour documentary made on a budget of 5$

I've known such people
They exist.

Otherwise martin scorsese wouldn't be a successful director

I've not seen his entire work but wolf of the wall street, irishman, killers of the flower moon and silence are all pretty ass

I have seen both wolf of wall street ,his Christian movie and taxi driver. The former does what it is supposed to and does it well. It's not meant to be high art. Taxi driver is also good, depicts the dichotomy of a man thinking he's been destined for loneliness while (violently) craving companionship. Third is a spin on already established "biopic" of sorts and it's also good. im not a critic, but just calling him ass cause you think everyone who watches him is a snot nosed theatre nerd is equally larp

If you genuinely do believe it, I respect that

but scorsese is definitely not in that niche cinephile category bro even the ones you mentioned are all blockbusters

in 2026 it's definately soft porn
also part of the story is how you write it
No sex scene is ever relevant to a film unless they specifically engineer to plot to fit that in

totally fine to have sex scenes but i also find them quite unnecessary and usually find myself skipping over the scenes. I've watched some greys anatomy and it has a lot of those scenes. i mostly skip those unless the characters talk in between abut something else

#15
tv0rusluke
0
Frags

it's almost always unnecessary

#16
CaxTonYT

Frags

i mean if a series follows romance between two teenagers there's bound to be some sort of s*x involved. Atleast in modern shows. It just follows the journey of their relationship how they get from awkward kissing to getting to be comfortable around them. Its not always unnecessary although mostly awkward watching

#17

I should've clarified
I mean nudity and not just sex scenes

#19
CaxTonYT

oh nudity is DEFINITELY unnecessary unless its a dedicated corn show
edit your post body to nudity it makes more sense that way

I mean I think it depends, right? I do agree that sometimes they are pretty unnecessary, like I don't need to see that. But I do think they usually work best when they're there to make you uncomfortable, like in some horror movies or thrillers

#30
tv0rusluke
0
Frags

never watched horror or slasher movies so idk
But in general movies like Oppenheimer don't require it imo
Nobody is watching naked Florence pugh and saying 'oh that's the emotional and psychological trauma depicted through this scene'

#54
Conceit

Frags

Yeah I mean yeah like sex scenes or nudity don't work in contexts they don't work. But like I'm curious how you would look at a movie or show where that is the point, where it is like about the relationship and sex. Like say 50 Shades of Grey where it is the central plot of the movie and really the entire conceit of it, could you see nudity and sex being proper in that context?

Do gotta specify that I do agree with you. I do find nudity and sex in like movies to really just make me uncomfortable and usually unnecessary, it's probably why I find it best when the purpose is to make me uncomfortable. But I can definitely see the artistic merits of including one if it works within the context, and I promise you it's not lure gooners. Like no one's going to watch Oppenheimer for the sex scene that I honestly forgot was in the movie

I think movies like 365 days or Fifty shades come into soft p*rn category so it's alright
It's audience is probably people who enjoy that and the entire plot revolves around it as well

yeah 99% of those scenes in movies are useless and nearly never further the plot, it’s very easy to imply what happened if two characters duo queuing is truly that important for the movie (it can be relevant to the plot if it’s someone cheating or smth but it can be so easily implied without showing it, showing it never furthers the plot)

#32

nudity generally means vulnerability, innocence, exposition. we only see other people nude in deeply intimate moments with people we are truly intimate with. being nude is being exposed to someone, on movie's case, the character being deeply exposed to you and someone else on the screen. why can't we walk around naked? there's even a religious explanation for it on the popular mind, but in the end, is just the thought of being completely exposed being uncomfortable. you can change your clothes but you can't change your body yknow (or at least not with the same ease), thats you completely without a filter

porn≠sex just because two characters in movie have sex dosnt mean the directers wanted to lure in the gooners, how are they supposed to show love ? with a kiss? with "I love you" ? that dosnt show anything for all you can know they can be lying

#45
tv0rusluke
0
Frags

Yeah and I don't think they require explicit nudity to show that two characters are in love

#47

Your problem with sex scenes with or without nudity seems like a pretty big non-issue to me. Sex scenes are gonna be a lil uncomfy with family with or without clothes, and when watching films by yourself there would be no difference. You keep saying it's unnecessary but personally I think the sex scenes should match the tone of the film, whether that be dark, vulgar, or light and wholesome or somewhere in between. I would say a bigger issue of nudity in sex scenes is the willingness to show female nudity versus the almost refusal to show any dick, seems a bit inequal to me

My favorite movie of all time is Rush and both the main characters (Niki Lauda and James Hunt) have sex scenes, James is a vapid reckless character detachted from the consequences of his actions and his sex scenes reflect this and build throughout to show why he is this way from his insecurities and need to constantly prove himself. Niki starts pretty emotionless and detached and throughout the movie becomes more emotional and invested in living his actual life than just results and his sex scene builds that.

What matters is how it is used and to what end, if it means something then its not goonerbait
