Might not be in Korea for sure but idk about China. But yeah globally it is more popular. I mean viewership in social media are one example of it being more popular in a way. Also for China maybe some hok or mobile game play is legendary that's not even heard outside China lol. Hard to determine what's popular in China cause of the great wall.

I seriously, seriously doubt that a moment from the 2004 fighting game scene is more influential than the most iconic play from the most popular esports game in history, especially in China, which does not have a strong fighting game scene. Even if Evo made its way outside of the esports sphere, I seriously doubt it would be popular in China, especially because Evo is mostly known in the West/Japan. I mean it basically comes down to this - do you think more people in China know about league of legends or do you think more people in China know about Street Fighter? Don't forget that console gaming is not that big in Asia outside of Japan.

As for views on social media, Evo 37 happened twice as long ago as Faker's play.

Probably but evo 37 kind did transcend the Esports bubble in popularity at the time and fighting game scene for China is actually quite strong and league esports wasn't that popular at the time of that play by faker.

Tbh the ig winning lpl for the first time or edg winning worlds are likely considered the greatest esports moment in China. The edg worlds is probably the most popular and iconic in China since it still has the highest peak viewership record for league esports. Like the finals of edg winning worlds reached 73 million peak viewership which is almost double of recent worlds peak vierwship.

just because evo escaped the esports bubble does not necessarily make it significantly more influential than the most iconic play from league. nor was evo or street fighter that popular when evo 37 happened either lol. both got their popularity as a result of people getting interested in esports/gaming over time.

and while the fighting game scene might not be super dead in Asia outside of Japan, it's 100% true that console gaming is significantly smaller in the major e-sports East Asian countries than it is in the West.

i mean this is just sort of moving goalposts, yeah i mean if we want to get into what the Chinese audience views as the greatest moment in League we can talk about that another time, but the point is that Evo 37 is pretty unlikely to have been more influential globally than Faker's play just because the fighting game scene is outnumbered by the league of legends scene & the modern esports scene as well.

Globally doesn't just mean China and Korea. Also not trying to move goalposts or anything. Just trying to point out that maybe the faker vs ryu moment is also not as popular as you might think in China cause league esports really started growing big in China a bit later than 2013. Just ask iongers or some Chinese people man. Let's not extend this stupid ass kinda subjective debate anymore.
Also just popularity alone evo 37 for sure has reached wider point is my opinion.
