Personally I like the current round robin stage/league system format. I understand some people think bracket style tournament games have more stakes because games are elimination and qualification, but there is also tactical depth that is lost by completely switching to this system. By having week to week games teams are given 6 days minimum to prep for each match-up(not counting super-weeks or whatever tf China is doing). While some teams could always use more time, this schedule allows for all competitive teams to specifically prepare for their opponents with counter-comps, anti-strats, and VOD reviewing player tendencies. In tournament style play you do not have the time to do that, as games are often 2-3 days apart and depending on seating/scheduling you may have to wait for your opponent's game to finish to see who you will play (barring the 1st game of the tournament and any multi-day break between playoffs/top 4). What I predict this system creating is a race to the bottom for the most brawly, all or nothing, capitalize on the first advantage playstyle. You won't have the time to optimize for specific match-ups, and whatever time you do spend on that would likely be better put to use working on team-fight fundamentals and agent mastery. Think every single team playing like PRX, and not only because that style is optimal in the current meta, but because the structure of the competition incentivizes that playstyle as well. Why would any self-respecting coach waste time watching their opponent play next year when you likely don't have enough time to implement and test specific protocols or anti strats? Currently league play is the best chance to see all unique regional match-ups and it heavily encourages teams to work on countering their opponents week to week.
Now I am not fully arguing for league play in every aspect or to re-work global event formats to be round robin, what I am asking for is to retain the mix of both formats instead of completely killing round robin. The mix of formats is the best of both worlds, in regional events teams have time to counter each other leading to higher level unique play and in global events the tournament schedule keeps viewers engaged with do or die stakes.
