its because they merged two regions into one and its fucking huge compared to others
it doesn't matter, you can't ask 3rd and 4th seeds to be competitive with 1st and 2nd seeds. It's just not reasonable and it's been proved enough times already
Well imagine how you would feel if you were playing in a 16 team league and having the exact amount of slots with all the other 8 team leagues. It does not matter if they're not competitive, it's just the way it is man if the league is twice as big they will have twice the amount of slots
the 4 seeds are a problem for the format because the groups are fucked up and the teams are not doing shit anyway even against the weaker competition, more player doesn't necessarily mean more good teams, unfortunately it is not proportional so restricitng yourself to a simple mathematical consideration doesn't make as much sense as you think it does
With your logic we should take china's all vct slots because they have been so shit for the past two years. and the format is riots fault, they have been doing this retarded 3 team group stage instead of a simple fucking swiss stage way before NE had 4 slots. In my opinion Riot merge other subregions aswell and only have 4 big tier2 regions (North, East, West and MENA) but yeah instead of doing that we got these 99 different regions!
it's a completely different situation because in VCT every league has 12 teams so everyone has 4 spots
In this system, NE is an outlier that has twice the amount of teams, but that doesn't mean that there are twice as many teams that deserve a spot. I think every region should have an equal number of spots, because the amount of good teams is not proportional to the number of teams overall. It's not their fault, it's not a problem of NE being a worse region than the others, it's just that it doesn't make sense to have 3rd/4th seed play into this kind of tournament, because 3rd and 4th seeds in NE are not better than the 3rd and 4th seeds in other regions.
Also if we go by this logic, should DACH have 4 teams going to the main event as well? The answer is obviously no, because everyone understands that more teams competing doesn't mean that the average level is better, so the lower seeded teams aren't, by default, on a good enough level to participate in these events
Riot is kinda retarded when it comes to EMEA tier2, because instead of setting clear and strict rules and format that applies to every single region, they let the organizers of every region have their own format. and probably when north and east got merged they wanted to make it a 16 team league with 4 seeds and riot agreed to it. If NE keeps doing this 16 team league they will continue to have 4 slots
They really should just have 4 subregions in tier2, and the winner of each region should be able to play in masters/champs quals with other 8 vct playoffs teams
