I don't really understand the hate around the tournament honestly. It has a proper qualification circuit and more teams. Yes, the format could be improved, but it also has a relatively larger prize pool. Everyone is so Sideshow pilled and adjusting their opinions becoming like this huge hivemind based on what a bald man from the sewers of Britain had to say about it.
People start giving excuses like the Saudi government doesn't treat its laborers right and suddenly become human rights apologists, as if other known countries (not naming names) are committing nice acts and definitely not disturbing the peace. PLUS, it isn't even funded by the government, it's just a group of very wealthy Saudi investors who want to expand and revive a dying esports scene not just in Saudi.

Y’all can stop calling it a Mickey and treat it like an actual tournament that matters, like ESL.

its not even prestigious enough to be called a mickey

its literally an off-season tournament and should be treated as such

same tier as the sen city invitational, the prize pool, qualification and format doesnt matter, what matters is that its not an official

it’s a non-official offseason tier 1 tournament therefore it gets grouped up with the rest of them, no matter how insignificant they may seem

soop, predator league, project blender, that one tournament that sacy did

no amount of prize money can change the fact that it’s not a part of the main circuit

I agree w/ most of the things you said but EWC is considered as a S tier tourney (doesnt really mean anything but for sure it is better than the sacy invitational)

also dont take this mickey mouse discourse too seriously, people who win ewc get a shit ton of cash so of course people try

i agree i didn't wanna touch politics as well but people started calling it such after sideshow's whole meltdown about it dragging politics in a video game, it's just a matter of good PR which saudi doesn't have because we don't what rito also does behind the scenes

Not part of the main circuit but at the same time one of the big reasons why NRG could win Champs in the first place

If they came into Champs as full international rookies (for 3/5 players) I don't think they survive those games v EDG/DRX in the first place

reddit and youtube are american pilled. saudi bad, not so much whatever their allies or they do. The only way to really stop ewc being mickey is if it is part of riot official structure towards champs which will most likely happen come 2027. Until then, it's going to be quite micky since people have an excuse to call it mickey due to not being an official intl tournament part of vct circuit and political opinions.

personally, i think it's mickey since teams don't have enough time to prepare.

gng I think a lot of teams are prioritizing EWC > London. 2mil prize pool is pretty insane.

orgs value EWC. who pays/hires the players? the orgs.

tf r u yapping about gng. ofc players care about it (also the players get a share of the winnings as well I believe based on the org contract)

of course orgs care, but the players has more impact on the team performance. if players feel like they care less, they will play worse. It is that simple

gng. These are the players' jobs. What r u on about? No player is "caring less". There are only 4 international tournaments every year.

I’m not saying they dc. they just care less since it’s less prestigious. These players care about public opinion. given that americas are so loud and call ewc mickey, players gravitate to care about it less. You see boaster with back to back trophies talking like s0m champs trophy clears him just cuz of champs prestige

Like i said on another post is like mark zuckerberg offered you a billion dollars to hang out. you would obviously say yes because of the money but would you really want to outside of that?

ewc has zero cultural impact and no one really cares about it outside of the amount of money. proof: heretics won last year and everyone still thought they had a mid year. it is unironically as relevant as red bull homeground lol
