NRG were def not favourites, they barely qualified over MIBR who chocked hard, and playing a completely different meta to everyone else. Just because Bonkar and the rest of NRG put in work to improve in the time between bangkok and kickoff doesnt mean what ss said about kickoff NRG is wrong.

they’re playing their own meta and it’s gotten them this far, they’ll do their best to try adapt to dambi’s hyper aggressive playstyle but it doesn’t mean that they should change their identity mid tournament

I could at least understand the logic behind that take even if I thought it was stupid because bonkar is a god with any sort of time. The true criminal take was saying that if g2 win trent can't be mvp, that one makes 0 sense

I mean NRG were 2-5 vs double duelist comps coming into Santiago, where most teams are playing double duelist. I dont think its outrageous to make that take at the time it was made

There is this misconception that playing out of meta is bad. It’s only bad bc majority of the times the teams that do it are bad objectively. NRG is just the case of comfort and the extra info makes it easier for Ethan to call.

I can see why he had the take bc it would be correct for most teams but he didn’t account for how good the team is and the strength of bonkar as a coach
