Cascade picking (most viable solution)

This new way of picking agents is generating a lot of opposing opinions.

I thought of a solution that in my head is much more efficient and would help teams in the competitive queue to assemble their composition.

This is because from the moment you click on the agent (jett for example) no one can choose her, even if you haven't locked her yet. That way the team can talk about the composition without the main duelist having to instalock.

we all know that the instalock is the one that generates the most disagreements and the famous team composed only of duelists, which often ends up with the team's spirit.

in addition to finding this solution very efficient, I believe it is feasible to implement this in the game.

greetings

i think it turns out unfair for the players that will end up filling roles 99% of the time, it just won't work

If you're worried about filling roles you're probably a 1 trick role worried you won't be able to instalock anymore

im not worried about filling roles, imo the cascade picking just leaves the picking situation in an rng based system where some players will sometimes get punished having to fill a role they may not feel comfortable playing, ie: initiator, sentinel, etc

for a system like this to work, you need a similar system like league uses to not enforce players to fill random positions every other game, but choose from one to two roles they may want to play, that way cascade picking works just about fine

is it a solution to instalock duelists? sure it is, but it adds a different variable to the game; i guess we'll have to wait and see how it works out

problem for a preferred role based system is there are not as many agents as of right now to ensure diversity in queues, thats all my opinion tho

the thing is if half of the players prefer duelist role so u gonna need time to find a match.

but yea i think this league system is better

sure i agree you;

i feel like having a preferred role based system just allows the queue to detect what's lacking, that way we could have a similar prefer role queue like overwatch had, which pointed out which roles had faster queues and which had longer; and on top of that, you could have a similar system as league has, pointing out that if you choose an overpicked role you may be randomly filled in a different position

i dont care since i can and enjoy to play most agents

but for instalockers this cascade idea seems kinda tilting, but who cares bout instalockers feelings

It just sucks that u queue for game and can get a map that u hate and be forced to play an agent that u are not interested in, just wasting an hour of your life.

cascade is dumb. i main smokes or fill, what do i do if i pick first? lock duelist? lock smokes and hope somebody picks initiator/sentinel? just seems fucked to me.

The cascade system will result in more matches being dodged, specially in lower ranks. Sounds like a clever solution to instalocks, but in practice it causes more problems that it solves.

is it clever for instalocks tho? to me it feels like they just added rng to decide whether the instalocker will get to instalock first or even 2nd or not

I said it seems clever in paper, but it's not really that much of a solution. Anyways this is the way devs test this kind of things, maybe the're just experimenting and if the community doesn't like it they'll take it back to the original system, like they did with diamond 3 - radiant 2stacks and the single immortal rank leaderboard.

dont get me wrong, i think its one step in the right direction, but it seems hesitant; adding rng will just make some players keep playing duelist as they were before, with just a little added delay to the rest of their teammates
there's many ways of changing this system and making it a little better, we'll have to wait it out and see how riot ends up changing it

Ofc it's a good step, the cascade works in other games and Riot taking the reference from those games means that they're working to solve the issue, I just think it breaking the agent select system more than it solves it. It just seems too early to make this kind of changes.

sure, as soon as more agents come into play it's likely we'll be seeing a preferred role selection prior to queueing ranked; imo a mix between both league and overwatch (and probably just overwatch) is the way to go, proved to work... not gonna say perfectly, but as good as it gets

I don't know that much about Overwatch's pick system but if for some reason Riot adds an agent rotation system it'll result in a lot of hate from the community. I don't think they're gonna do it tho (...right?).

anything could happen, since it already worked fine with league, they could try and go for it in valorant
