Ascension teams playing under new orgs

I’ve been pretty much absent from watching VCT since masters 24. How come so many teams have been picked up after ascending by new orgs. Isn’t that almost like mercenaries in VCT challengers? I remember something like this was a big deal when the guard ascended. What’s different now?
