I'm from NA and just started watching football. I have fallen in love with it but I still don't understand the offsides rule. Can someone explain to me how that works?

The ball cannot be passed to the striker that is ahead of the last defender.

Not exactly, the rule says if he is ahead of all besides 1 player (normally the goalkeeper is the last man so its basically the last defender that is taken into account)

Just cant pass forward when your two attackers are ahead of the last defender.

Say there's A, B and C. C is defender.
If A(has ball) passes to B, who is infront of C. It's offside. Now if A is behind B who is behind C. You can pass.

ok im football genius.

If the ball is behind the last defender the person the ball is passed too cannot be infront of the last defender.

If the ball is ahead of the last defender the player the ball is passed to can not be ahead of the ball.

The way it is decided if you are behind the ball/last defender is the closest part of your body to the opponents goal line that you are allowed to score with.

Also you can't be offside from a throw in, corner or a goal kick.

You can't Hail Mary the ball to the striker if he is the last man, should be the defender +1 the last man, normally defender and the keeper but it can be two defender. If the striker is the last man but in his side of the field, he can't be offsed.
