I've been on this site for 4 years and never made an IRL post like this before, but I wanna ask:
Does anyone else feel lowkey miserable scrolling through Linkedin? the imposter syndrome goes crazy. but its also kinda motivating to see others work hard.

Well that's kinda the point of the app to share your achievements with others and find people of similar interests

i agree, but there is a pretty well known linkedin culture where people fluff up their stuff with all sorts of bullshit to make themselves seem more productive than they actually are (i have also done this), but it does sometimes give you crazy imposter syndrome no?

Honestly, LinkedIn is one of the worst social medias for your mental. It's pretty much a worker's social media so you get the whole shabang of wholesome content, motivational content and cringe whilst seeing people progress with their adult life. I feel miserable whenever I open it because my career is stagnated and I desperately want to just get into the career I want to be in long-term.

i just use LinkedIn to look for employees / keep successful friends in touch. Who knows they might come handy in the future.

Yeah man LinkedIn is depressing. You see stuff everyone is working on/ building projects and start questioning your life decisions and what’s funny is that you have to sell yourself out there to get something done on there. When I got a job I didn’t open linked for 2-3 months and I found peace. Then I started scrolling linked more and ended up comparing the career growth of people my age and myself. I have friends from college who went from searching for a job along with me to become LinkedIn influencers and guiding others in job hunting. Half the people are impression farmers to me on that platform. And it’s not even a good job board anymore, most of the jobs are reposted.

Some of mine too lol. I have couple friends (I wouldn’t call them friends; acquaintances) who got big positions at Apple and did not even bother making a post.

my friends work at microsoft, apple, at&t, meta, lenovo, nvidia, google, and amazon and pretty much none of them have anything on their linkedin besides their employment history and education and they rarely post LMAOOO

it's pretty reassuring because they're pretty chill and normal people and it helps me not get brainwashed by the linkedin elitists. helps me focus on what i'm doing for myself and not worry about putting on a show for random people, fake flexing
