if prime OpTic from 2022 came back right now, do you think they could even beat the 2G ascension winning roster?
Prime optic onetricking chamber with prime marved lurks, prime fns calling, and prime crashies clutching would still be good. I doubt they would win a chip but they created neon and chamber meta, adapted to fade meta quickly, and was one of the first teams to figure out pearl. People are underestimating them
Prime OPTC would be fighting for Master Toronto trophy and would be favorites
you forget in their time
yay-most domiant player OAT
marved-best smokes player
crashies-best initator player
victor-solid flex
fns-best igl decent fragger
only issue Id say is comps but they could run Yay Jett most maps and be fine
They did have flaws though. They relied very heavily on yay being uberconsistent, and they did choke a lot of leads and match points. They had several strengths (victor neon and yay chamber (+consistency), strong fracture and then strong bind) but they relied extremely heavily on these strengths. At times like champs uf and gf and in Copenhagen you could see what happened when it didn’t work.
They also had slightly questionable mental at times (champs gf, Copenhagen uf/lf, even Reykjavik upper finals)
i agree completely. the team was not perfect and i do think they would likely struggle a bit with adapting for current meta, specially with agent variety and fns calling as a sentinel. thats why i dont put them as absolute favorites for titles. but all the players back in their optic form would still be a top tier team. we have to remember that even in champs GF they got two maps with overtime and, besides "throwing" advantages, they didnt win mainly because of loud hero plays on ascent and breeze
They had a couple other maps (started 6-0 on breeze vs loud, started 5-0 and 6-0 vs fpx at Copenhagen ) and almost choked a couple other maps as well (10-2 vs loud and 10-2 liquid at champs ending like 13-10, 11-3 vs loud ending 14-12 at Reykjavik ). They threw a lot of leads tbh, which was a bit of a weakness for them. But I agree they did a fantastic job adapting to new metas and maps so they would probably still be good.
For a singular year they were the most dominant team other than fnatic 2023
They won the first lan, got 3rd place at the 2nd lan, and 2nd place at champs. Not only that, but until upper finals at Copenhagen and champions they looked like the team to beat at both tourneys. They also had the most dominant player in the world and 3 other players were arguably the best in their role that year
i like champs 23 more because that top 4 was even more insane to me overall. watching all of the storylines unfold in real time was madness. fnatic dynasty run, loud revenge run, prx jingg goodbye run (at the time) and EG cinderella run ending up on that top 4 with a lot of overtimes was goated. 2022 felt like and optic-loud year with copenhagen being an outlier, 2023 felt like everyone on that top 4 deserved to win
Cannot understate how legendary that loud optic rivalry was though, 2 teams from 2 different regions meeting in 2 grand finals in the same year. We had crazy moments like Aspas teamkilling in a round 1 elim match in Copenhagen on match point, less dropping 33 in icebox in their first match, sacy dropping 35 in one map in grand finals, so much crazy stuff. I do agree that in terms of actual quality 2023 was more stacked
