Why is maintaining form so hard?

Specifically for Valorant. You have teams like Sen who won 1 tournament and completely falls off and then you have teams like FNC who had one good year and completely falls off with the same roster coming into next year.
Meanwhile, in other games like League of Legends, you have teams like t1 consistently being at the top for consecutive years in a row with different rosters.

Meta shifts and format.

PRX has consistently been a top team since 2021, outside of Champions 2022 and Lock In.

Too early to say that Fnatic fell off, sure they didnt make Madrid but they have a good chance of making Shanghai. If they dont make that then ye I guess

Skill disparity in Valorant compared to a game like League is different to start off. The difference between the best team and the worst team in franchising is not a gap that wide. Also, Valorant is more finite in the way you can play, so eventually when there is so much footage of you playing, new ideas are harder to create and opponents can create effective ideas to stop your style of play, and that's why the adaptability factor of an entire team matters more than anything. What does your squad do when your strats are getting stuffed? I think the team that's the closest to figuring it out is Paper Rex, and it shows in their placements (top 4 in the last 3-4 tournaments).

Ooh, yeah, that's actually a really good point about PRX. You can't antistrat them when they pull out something absolutely crazy, and they can make it work. Who the heck predicts THREE DUELISTS, with no senti or initi?

it’s the map pool getting shifted and fucked every 2 months, agent releases don’t affect the meta that much anymore.

Game changes + formats being wack + anti strating is super huge in this game (more than cs id argue) + chemistry has to keep constantly developing + need consistent good practice + maintaining form by staying healthy physically and mentally

Im league while the game changes and drafts exists, you just kind of show up sometimes and play to your comps strenghts and your fundies. In Valorant yeah you can have win conditions too but sometimes it all falls apart because when you get shot, you die.

I think that maintining form is easier than a lot of people think. However, it is just not enough.
If you are just as strong as you always have been, it will be a matter of time until another team is better than you.
So, even if you are the strongest, you have to keep being stronger. Keep studying, practicing and developing strats, or you will be read.
For example, I don't think that FNC fell off, I think that the other teams caught up to their level. (Counterargument: they almost lost a map against KOI)

Playing a game or sport is always about self-improvement long term. The second you become complacent, its ggs.

maintaining form is not hard
should get better than your form

teams get stronger and stronger
can't keep being constant of what they were earlier if they wanna win more
