In my view, good acting can shine even in a story with weak character writing. While the characters in 'Animal' may have been poorly written, I think the actors did a commendable job with what they were given.
It's like they took flawed material and still managed to deliver convincing performances. So, bad character development doesn't necessarily mean the actors didn't excel in their roles.
